Canada’s Effort to Criminalize Criticism of Israel

Israel’s siege of Gaza has made it a “closed zone” – no access, no exit, cut off from the world. By attempting to shut down criticism of Israel’s practices, Canadian supporters of the government of Israel are creating another “closed zone” in Canada – in which criticism, open debate, and freedom of expression will not be allowed.
Who is doing this? Quietly, without authority from Parliament, an all-party group which calls itself the Canadian Parliamentary Coalition to Combat Antisemitism (CPCCA) has been formed to investigate antisemitism in Canada. Not antisemitism as it is traditionally understood: discrimination against or denial of the right of Jews to live as equal members of society. (Members of this Coalition are well aware that traditional antisemitism exists only among fringe groups in Canada.)
Instead, their focus is on something they label as the “new antisemitism” — which they define as criticism of the State of Israel!
WHAT IS THE CANADIAN PARLIAMENTARY COALITION TO COMBAT ANTISEMITISM?
Whenever criticism of Israel increases, as it did in the wake of Israel’s 2006 attack on Lebanon and after the 2009 Gaza massacre, organizations supporting the State of Israel insist that this is a symptom of a “new antisemitism”. This argument is designed to deflect attention from Israel’s real crimes by smearing those who criticise Israel.
The CPCCA, which is integral to the effort to protect Israel from criticism, was formed in March, 2009. It is comprised of twenty-two Parliamentarians, including members of all four parties in the House of Commons. Jason Kenney, the Harper government’s Minister of Citizen, Immigration and Multi-Culturalism and the Conservative government’s point person on Israel, and Irwin Cotler, former Liberal Justice Minister and long time supporter of Israel, are ex-officio members. The CPCCA was publicly launched on June 2, 2009 with a call for written submissions “to consider evidence on the nature of antisemitism….and consider further measures that might be usefully introduced”. It received more than 150 submissions. Contrary to commitments made by CPCCA’s executive director Monica Kugelnass, however, most of these submissions have not been posted on its website. Nor has the CPCCA fulfilled its commitment to reveal the source of its funding.

WHAT IS THE CPCCA UP TO?
The CPCCA began public hearings in Ottawa on Nov. 2, 2009. Almost without exception, none of the many organizations that submitted briefs critical of the CPCCA’s mandate or which criticized the notion of a “new antisemitism” were invited to make presentations to the inquiry panel. Meanwhile, representatives of organizations which did not submit briefs, including university presidents and representatives of police departments, were called as witnesses. Clearly the CPCCA anticipated that these submissions would support their preordained conclusion that the new antisemitism was a large and growing problem in urgent need of legislative response.
The CPCCA will issue a report at the conclusion of these hearings and “anticipates that the Government will respond to this report no later than the fall of 2010”. The Coalition’s stated objective is to include criticism of Israel in an expanded version of existing Hate Crimes legislation. In addition, consideration is being given to doing something similar with respect to Canadian Human Rights legislation. Canada, viewed by Israel as one of its strongest supporters, could then provide a model for similar legislative undertakings in other countries.
WHAT IS AT STAKE?
The essence of the “new antisemitism” campaign is an attempt to conflate discrimination against Jews – something which is as illegitimate as any other form of racism and discrimination and must be opposed – with criticism of the State of Israel, its actions, or its governing ideology, Zionism. It is the view of CPCCA ex-officio member Irwin Cotler, Israel is “the collective Jew among nations.” From this perspective, criticizing Israel is the same as discriminating against Jews.
At a time when racism and bigotry against many communities in Canada — First Nations, Muslims, South Asians and Chinese, Haitians among them – constitute a much greater problem than antisemitism, it is not clear why the Coalition has chosen to focus its attention solely on the latter.
The CPCCA accepts some criticism of Israel may be legitimate. But it also declares that criticism of Israel as a Jewish State – rather than a state where all citizens enjoy equal rights – is inherently antisemitic. That calling Israel’s treatment of its Palestinian citizens apartheid is antisemitic. And that supporting the growing international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign by those determined to change Israel’s behaviour is antisemitic.
Ironically if this expanded definition of antisemitism becomes legislation, it will be possible to criticize the actions of the Canadian government but not those of the government of Israel. Just the fear of being prosecuted is likely to create a “chill” on both university campuses and in the media. But why should Israel be the one country in the world we are not allowed to criticize?
Moreover, branding those who criticise Israel as “antisemitic” is part of a campaign to help organizations such as the Canadian Jewish Congress (CJC) and B’nai Brith — which provide uncritical support for Israel – put themselves forward as the only legitimate representatives of Canadian Jews. While there are many Jewish organizations and individuals, both within Israel and throughout the world, whose views on Israel differ dramatically from those of the CJC and B’nai Brith, the CPCCA is not interested in hearing from those voices.
The SFSC insists that criticizing Israel is not antisemitic and that restricting debate on the illegal occupation of Gaza and the apartheid nature of Israel society will only allow the continued oppression of the Palestinian people and make a mockery of political free expression in Canada. If we keep silent about the CPCCA, even a document like the one you are reading may ultimately be considered illegal.

Trigger warning: if your household companions include a cat, dog, canary, goldfish or turtle, this article is not a safe space. I’m writing about Harvard’s distinguished agnatologist Professor Naomi Oreskes (above) and her 2014 warning that global warming would kill your pets in 2023. The warning is in her acclaimed but glum book The Collapse of Western Civilization: A View from the Future. Given margins of error in climate science, the pet die-off might be this year instead. Oreskes wrote,
The loss of pet cats and dogs garnered particular attention among wealthy Westerners, but what was anomalous in 2023 soon became the new normal . … A shadow of ignorance and denial had fallen over people who considered themselves children of the Enlightenment (p9).
Smarter climate alarmists don’t make short-term predictions. They choose a date like 2050 for when the oceans will boil. They’ll be senile or dead by then and can’t be humiliated if the oceans stay chilly.
Top environmentalist Paul Ehrlich forecast in 1971 that by 2000 the UK “will be simply a small group of impoverished islands, inhabited by some 70 million hungry people … If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000.”[1] His 1968 book, Population Bomb, predicted starvation would shrink the US population to 23 million by 1999. Strangely, Oreskes in her book hails Ehrlich as a vindicated futurist. (p3-4 and 56).
The only good news from Naomi is that the IPCC becomes [more] discredited and is disbanded. She replaces it with such alphabet soups as the UNCCEP’s ICCEP which launches IAICEP, which she says is pronounced “ay-yi-yi-sep” (p27).The mission of ay-yi-yi-sep is to sprinkle enough fairy dust aka sulphates in the air to make an anti-sun umbrella and save the planet by 2079.
In September 2014 she was interviewed on the ABC’s Science Show by Dr (honoris causa) Robyn Williams, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, about the pet-deaths. One reader, she explained,
… started crying when the pets die, so I didn’t mean to upset people too much … I was just trying to come up with something that I thought people wouldn’t forget about, and I thought, ‘Well, Americans spend billions of dollars every year taking care of their pets’, and I thought if people’s dogs started dying, maybe then they would sit up and take notice.

“Judeo-Christian” is an OXYMORON. Thesis and ANTI-Thesis. The Old Testament followers worship a War God and spend their spiritual lives hating and reliving every imagined slight. NEVER FORGIVE and NEVER FORGET …. they still go on about Egypt and Babylon after MILLENIA. New Testament followers (are supposed to) worship a loving, forgiving God, and to CLOSE the Old Testament, as it has been FULLFILLED by the Crucifixion of Jesus. If you are following the OLD Testament you ARE NOT and CANNOT be a CHRISTian.

I agree w/ much of what you said… but you’re a little off with a couple of things.
1. Jacob did NOT invent ‘Judaism’. God changed Jacob’s name to Israel. Jacob/Israel was the same person.
Israel had 12 sons… each one became the patriarch of one of the 12 tribes of Israel. Judah was one of his sons and his descendants became the tribe of Judah.
In the Old Testament – A ‘Jew’ was a member of the tribe of Judah (better translated as ‘Judahite’.), or a resident of the kingdom of Judah – as distinct from the kingdom of Israel.
So the first ‘Jew’ was Judah – therefore his father Jacob/Israel was NOT a ‘Jew’ – nor were Abraham or Isaac ‘Jews’.
Moses was alive LONG before Judah was born – so Moses certainly was not a ‘Jew’ (Judahite). Moses received the Law (the WRITTEN Torah & the 10 commandments) directly from God.
The anti-Christ ‘Judaism’ of today is NOT the same as it was in the time of Moses. The ‘Judaism’ of today is actually Pharisaism and the Pharisees and their so-called ‘ORAL laws’ were denounced by Jesus Christ (who WAS a REAL tribal Judahite through His Blessed Mother Mary).
The Pharisees (then AND now) did not & do not adhere to the written Torah of Moses – but follow instead what Jesus called ‘the traditions of men’ – now known as the Talmud. The Talmud (the so-called ‘ORAL Torah’/Oral Laws) made the commandments of God of NO EFFECT, and actually contradicted the WRITTEN Laws handed down by Moses!
The Talmud was unheard of before the Babylonian captivity. The ‘Jews’ of today consider the ORAL Laws to carry more authority than the written Laws & the 10 commandments…
So the ‘Jews’ of today are nothing more than modern-day Pharisees!
Hatred of uncircumcised NON-Pharisees was codefied in the Talmud… not the Old Testament.
The O.T. makes it quite clear that there were many foreigners (non-Israelites) who lived in the promised land among the Israelites, and the Hebrews were commanded to treat them well.
The fake ‘Jews’ (Pharisees) of today have NO CONNECTION to the Hebrews of the Old Testament. Not in race OR in religion!
They may SAY that they do – but they are LIARS… of the father of lies & of the synagogue of Satan – “Those who SAY they are ‘Jews’ (Judahites) and are NOT, but do LIE! (Revelation 2:9, 3:9)
The one true God of the New Testament IS the same one true God of the Old Testament – as clearly attested to by Jesus and His apostles.
The FAKE ‘Jews’ of today do not follow the laws of the one true God… they are anti-Christs – of the synagogue of Satan – and REJECT the one true God. The O.T. and the N.T. both point to Jesus Christ as Salvation for all who accept and obey Him in faith.

25 years ago, LiveAid was held for an Ethiopia undergoing famine. $40 million or so was raised and not a dime went to help those people. No one was ever charged. Given the astronomical amount of deaths the aid could’ve prevented, those in charge of the money should’ve been charged with crimes against humanity. If the Jews can find a way to stop you from bringing this up, they’ll move heaven and hell to do so.

They are doing that in the US as well only from different prespective. Our civil liberties have been tampered with, the zionist controlled US government is taking our civil liberties one by one. Just get to a plane and see how exagerated and humiliating those searches go on an on and they are getting worse every day. And here you can not talk about Israel or the Jewish people either, they look for you and get you, threaten you and send visitors to your home or office and get nasty phone calls.

If you apply for a disability claim from an insurance company or, especially, the government, you have to PROVE you have been injured, REPEATEDLY. The insurance companies and government do not just “take your word for it” and never question you again. When Israel began USING the Holocaust for Political Leverage and Monetary Reparations, Israel itself opened the Holocaust up to questioning. When Israel collected MONEY for the Holocaust, Israel SOLD THE STORY RIGHTS. So it is not just Our RIGHT to “question” the holocaust, it is Our DUTY to ask “Are we buying a PIG in a POKE?”
Someone with an actuarial chart should track back and see just HOW MANY PEOPLE YOU HAVE TO START OUT WITH, in order to have 600,000 survivors 65+ YEARS LATER. And where do they get off with this “I survived 4-5-6 DEATH CAMPS” !? Seems to me those “notoriously efficient” Nazis were pretty sloppy, There had to be one heck of a LOT of “survivors” to begin with in 1945..
