Jewish settlers attack Palestinian farmer and his children

Palestine Information Center – 31/03/2012

AL-KHALIL — Jewish settlers attacked a 67-year-old Palestinian farmer while tending to his field along with his family in Beit Ummar, to the north of Al-Khalil, on Saturday morning.

Mohammed Awad, the coordinator of the popular committee in Beit Ummar, told Quds Press that Mohammed Salibi, 67, was tending to his farm along with his sons and daughters when suddenly dozens of masked settlers from the nearby settlement of Beit Ayin ran toward them while throwing rocks.

He said that he rushed to protect his children, who were panicked, and took them away to their home leaving his tractor behind.

Salibi said that the savage attack progressed under the very eyes of the Israeli occupation soldiers (IOF), who maintain constant presence in the area and occupy high watchtowers that enable them watch whatever is going on nearby but did not move to protect him or his family.

Elsewhere in Al-Khalil, IOF soldiers kidnapped a Palestinian shepherd near Susiya settlement while watching for his sheep that were grazing nearby.

Ratib Al-Jibour, the coordinator of the popular committee in Yatta town, said that an IOF unit kidnapped Hammad Nawaja, 33, after claiming that he tried to cut the barbed wire near the settlement.

  1. Hello, I lead a small international organization dedicated to increasing access to accurate information and defending legitimate democracies. We run campaigns and are building an alternative, international platform for news. We host online, livestreaming panel discussions with 3-6 people on them, to discuss very difficult issues. These panels are deliberately structured to tackle very challenging, even painful situations, in a safe manner. We are careful to choose participants who can join us for challenging discussions while remaining civil and respectful of different viewpoints. We are about to embark on a panel series entitled “Global Spring”, in honor of Arab Spring. We will be conducting panels with a mix of Western and Middle Eastern activists, revolutionaries, and people who wish simple wish to tell their stories to those who otherwise only hear these stories very rarely, if at all (especially out of Palestine). The goals of this panel series include tackling war-on-terror aggravated stereotypes between US citizens and Muslims here in the US and abroad, providing a platform for discussing US foreign policy with people on the ground in other nations, and ultimately – some measure of healing – for all of us. We know we only human, are a small, all-volunteer group, and can only offer so much, but, we hope through genuine, thoughtful discussions we can begin to find more common ground, share deeper truths together, reduce anguish, and help one another stay strong as we face injustices around the world.

Please let me know if you know anyone in Palestine, such as the father in this story, who would like to join one of our panels on Palestine. We would like to hear directly from Palestinians of about what the conditions they face. We know that there are very intense feelings on what is happening and know that we are strangers to this situation and thus must tread carefully. But we would like to offer a platform for sharing stories, not just of struggle but to also discover some of our common hopes and goals – to begin to unite people of all faiths and backgrounds, in whatever ways we can. Please let me know if this is of interest to you. Thank you.

  2. By the way, our websites, if you wish to see what we do are here: http://www.revolutiontruth.org and http://www.stopNDAA.org

(we are leading a global lawsuit against the United States government over the NDAA – a law that allows my gov to arrest anyone, anywhere, at any time, and to hold them indefinitely, deny them access to counsel and a trial, because they are accused by my gov of being a terrorist, or an “associated force” of terrorists). This is a catastrophic assault on civil liberties and on the rights of people everywhere.
