  1. ‘Love God, and love your neighbour as yourself’ is the defining tenet of Christianity. Do good to all as you have the opportunity. This is what determines whether human augmentation is good or evil. If it is to help those who have been severely afflicted by accidents, etc., to give them back some quality of life, then it can only be seen as good and worthwhile. But if it is to control, or to create human machines – cyborgs – to create expendable soldiers for military superiority, or human drones, then those efforts are evil and antithetical to human wellbeing.
It should be remembered that, although these scientists may have notions of what they can do with the human body, they are very much like DIY mechanics trying to improve a Formula 1 racing car. They did not create the car, and they have limited understanding of how it functions. More importantly, they do not know what life is – the motive power of the car – or where it came from. And they cannot create it. Furthermore, all human life is subject to mortality – even those who think they are God.
