International Committee for Breaking the Siege on Gaza chair responds to Israel defamation campaign

MEMO | October 4, 2025

Zahir Birawi, chair of the International Committee for Breaking the Siege on Gaza has today issued a press statement in response to an Israeli defamation campaign against international activists, solidarity organisations, and particularly those of us working to end the criminal siege of Gaza through the Freedom and Sumud flotillas.

Birawi says that his name has been cited in defamatory reports issued by Israeli ministries, notably on 30 September. “I state unequivocally: the allegations of terrorism levelled against me are false, fabricated, and politically motivated. They form part of a systematic strategy to criminalise peaceful solidarity work, intimidate international activists, and manufacture consent for Israel’s ongoing acts of piracy, including the kidnapping of hundreds of human rights defenders sailing to Gaza with humanitarian aid.”

The statement read: “Israel’s actions are not isolated but part of a state doctrine of defamation against those who challenge its apartheid and colonial rule. By branding activists as extremists, Israel attempts to neutralise opposition to its crimes, delegitimise solidarity networks, and shift attention away from its violations of international law.”

In light of the gravity of the allegations Birawi has asserted his right to pursue legal action against those responsible for the smear campaign. He wrote:

“I reserve my full right to pursue legal remedies against those who propagate these defamatory claims. This is not an empty threat. In 2021, I successfully sued World-Check, compelling the company to remove my name from its terrorism list and compensate me for the damage caused by its false classification. This legal precedent demonstrates both the falsity of these accusations and the accountability that can be demanded from those who spread them.”

Larry Ellison funded Rubio’s political rise after vetting him for ‘loyalty to Israel’

The Cradle | October 3, 2025

Larry Ellison, the billionaire co-founder of tech giant Oracle, vetted US Secretary of State Marco Rubio for his support of Israel before making large donations to the senator from Florida’s 2016 presidential election campaign, Drop Site news reported on 3 October.

Leaked emails released by an Iranian hacker group, Handala, show that Ellison discussed Rubio’s loyalty to Israel with Ron Prosor, who at that time served as the Israeli ambassador to the UN.

In April 2015, Ellison and Prosor exchanged several emails discussing Rubio and whether the senator would be an advocate for Israel.

After Ellison met Rubio for dinner, Prosor sent a message to Ellison asking how their meeting went.

“How was the conversation with Mario Rubio. [sic] Did he pass your scrutiny? Did you have a chance to talk about Israel? Would love to chat.”

Ellison responded by saying, “Hi Ron. Great meeting with Marco Rubio. I set him up to meet with Tony Blair,” adding, “Marco will be a great friend for Israel.”

At the time, Rubio was seen as a strong challenger in the Republican presidential primary, which was ultimately won by upstart candidate Donald Trump.

Ellison then donated $4 million to Rubio’s presidential campaign, making him among the top donors of the 2016 cycle.

Since that time, Rubio has been a staunch advocate for Israel and is currently helping Ellison in his goal of building a media empire and taking control of Gaza.

Drop Site notes Rubio has played a role in helping Ellison take control of TikTok, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu views as crucial to influencing young people in the US to support Israel.

While under Chinese ownership, TikTok allowed relatively free criticism of Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

Ellison is seeking to expand his influence over the traditional media in the US as well. His son David is moving to take control of CBS News, CNN, Warner Brothers, and Paramount, and will reportedly install pro-Israel journalist Bari Weiss as editor of CBS News.

Ellison is also seeking to benefit from post-war Gaza reconstruction through former UK prime minister Tony Blair and the institute he heads.

Blair is seeking to lead a committee that US President Donald Trump plans to establish to rule Gaza and oversee the reconstruction of the enclave once it has been emptied of its roughly 1.7 million Palestinian inhabitants.

Drop Site notes further that Trump’s son-in-law, New York real estate investor Jared Kushner, tasked the Tony Blair Institute this spring to develop a plan for post-war Gaza.

As Secretary of State, Rubio is in a position to influence the plans for Gaza and help determine who will benefit financially from Trump’s plan to build a high-tech city, the “Riviera of the Middle East,” on stolen Palestinian land.

If Blair is given the role of overseeing Gaza’s reconstruction, Ellison will have strong influence in the enclave. Drop Site observed that the “Tony Blair Institute has effectively become an offshoot of Oracle,” following donations of $350 million from Ellison.

Ellison has long been a supporter of Israel. At a 2014 fundraiser attended by other pro-Israel billionaires, he declared that “there is no greater honor” than supporting the Israeli military.

In 2017, Ellison donated over $16 million to the Friends of the IDF, the largest-ever donation to the organization. Ellison is also good friends with Prime Minister Netanyahu, who has been a guest at Ellison’s private island in Hawaii.

IOF kidnaps Gaza nurse as medical staff struggle to work under fire

Palestinian Information Center – October 2, 2025

GAZA – Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Thursday abducted nurse Tasneem al-Hems from a medical point in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, in yet another attack on Palestinian health workers. She is the daughter of Dr. Marwan al-Hems, the director of Gaza’s field hospitals, who was kidnapped by an IOF undercover unit in July this year.

Family sources confirmed that Tasneem was seized by a special IOF unit near her workplace. Her father, Dr. al-Hems, was shot in the leg and abducted on July 21 near the International Committee of the Red Cross hospital in western Khan Yunis. He has since been held in Ashkelon prison, denied access to his lawyer, and remains in detention under extended orders.

The Gaza-based al-Dameer Association for Human Rights condemned the kidnapping and confirmed that Israel is using enforced disappearance against medical professionals. According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, at least 361 Palestinian medical staff are currently imprisoned by Israel.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s Ministry of Health warned that the few hospitals still partially operating in Gaza City are facing extreme risks. In a statement Thursday, the ministry said that reaching Al-Shifa Medical Complex, Al-Quds Hospital, and Al-Helou Hospital has become “highly dangerous” due to ongoing Israeli bombings.

The ministry urged international bodies to intervene immediately to protect medical institutions and staff and to ensure safe access to health facilities.

Health authorities recently reported that 20 hospitals in Gaza have been forced out of service, with only eight functioning at limited capacity under constant threat of IOF strikes.

Since August 11, 2025, Israel has intensified its genocide against Gaza, attempting to destroy the city and forcibly displace its population southward.

Colombia expels Israeli diplomats after Gaza aid flotilla raid

MEMO | October 2, 2025

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has ordered the expulsion of all remaining Israeli diplomats from the country, after the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla heading to Gaza.

He also called for suspending trade agreements with Israel after two Colombian citizens were arrested on board one of the ships. “Israel detained two Colombian women in international waters,” Petro said, demanding their immediate release.

Only four Israeli diplomats were still in Colombia after President Petro cut ties with Israel last year.

In a statement, Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the government and the Colombian people, strongly condemned what it described as the kidnapping carried out by Israeli armed forces in international waters. The ministry said this act violated international law and the Geneva Conventions, and targeted the two Colombian nationals, Luna Barreto and Manuela Bedoya, both members of the Global Sumud Flotilla.

The ministry also called for the immediate release of its citizens, as well as all other members of the flotilla. It urged the governments of Spain, Bangladesh, Brazil, Slovenia, Indonesia, Ireland, Libya, Malaysia, the Maldives, Mexico, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Thailand, Turkey, and South Africa to take urgent and joint action to protect the lives and safety of their nationals.

According to the ministry, the international flotilla set sail in the Mediterranean with three objectives: to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, to raise awareness of the urgent humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people, and to highlight the need to end the war in Gaza.

Activists report aggressive Israeli cyber, physical harassment as flotilla nears Gaza

Press TV – October 1, 2025

Activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla say they are facing aggressive harassment by Israeli warships as they approach Gaza to break the illegal naval blockade and deliver much-needed humanitarian aid.

The lead vessel, Alma, was deliberately encircled and subjected to communication blackouts early Wednesday, forcing its captain to take evasive maneuvers while Israeli forces continued their intimidation tactics against other ships in the flotilla.

“This was one of the biggest acts of harassment we have faced so far. They tried to scare us, but we weren’t afraid, and we told them we would not be afraid,” Metehan Sari, a Turkish activist aboard the Alma, was quoted as saying by Anadolu news agency.

Sari said that the Israeli navy ships came within 5 to 10 meters of the Alma.

Zeynel Abidin Ozkan, another activist aboard Adagio, said drones were flying “intensively” over their fleet overnight and that at around 5am, two ships which weren’t a part of the flotilla approached them and “launched a cyberattack on the GPS and internet database of the Alma, one of our fleet’s main vessels, cutting off our communication with the ship”.

Another flotilla vessel, the Sirius, also experienced interference. Lisi Proenca, aboard Sirius, said an Israeli naval ship circled her vessel for about 15 minutes, jamming communications and causing tension and fear among the crew. Members of the crew later demonstrated they were unarmed.

Despite these hostile actions, the flotilla comprised of over 40 boats and 500 activists, including prominent international figures such as Italian politicians and climate activist Greta Thunberg, remains undeterred in its mission to challenge the Zionist regime’s suffocating siege on Gaza.

The official page for the Global Sumud Flotilla said the fleet is now 118 nautical miles from Gaza, which it notes is 8 nautical miles from where Madleen, a flotilla which was launched in June this year, was intercepted.

Maritime traffic data is also showing that several vessels from the flotilla are approaching Egyptian territorial waters.

In a Telegram post it said: “We remain committed to non-violence and to creating a People’s Humanitarian Corridor – a lifeline for Gaza. The international community has entrusted us with this mission, and we will not fail.”

The harassment reflects Israel’s ongoing efforts to prevent any aid from reaching the Palestinian people, who have endured months of devastating blockade and violence.

Communications systems on multiple vessels were jammed, and cameras disabled during the Israeli naval maneuvers, cutting off crucial documentation and real-time updates from the flotilla.

The activists have already passed the 120-nautical mile mark, defying repeated Israeli warnings.

International condemnation of Israel’s blockade and military harassment continues to grow, with countries like Italy and Spain criticizing the recent attacks on the flotilla, which included drone strikes and explosions.

Israel’s baseless claims labeling the flotilla as a Hamas operation serve only to justify its ongoing repression.

Hamas reviews Trump’s Gaza ceasefire plan as PIJ rejects

Al Mayadeen | September 30, 2025

Hamas negotiators told mediators they would study the plan “in good faith” and provide a formal response, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Reuters reported that Egypt and Qatar briefed Hamas on United States President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war. Earlier, the White House confirmed that Trump had discussed the ceasefire proposal with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing it as a framework supported by “Arab and Islamic leaders.”

At a joint press conference with Netanyahu, Trump said he believed Hamas would eventually approve the proposal, adding that “Doha has taken it upon itself to convince the movement.”

PIJ rejects plan as ‘US-Israeli agreement’

The announcement drew sharp criticism from Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). Its Secretary-General, Ziyad al-Nakhalah, dismissed the initiative outright, calling it “nothing but a full American-Israeli agreement.”

Al-Nakhalah stressed that the announcement reflected “the Israeli position in its most precise details” and constituted “a recipe for the continuation of aggression against the Palestinian people.”

He warned that the proposal amounted to “an attempt to impose new realities through the US after the occupation failed to achieve them through successive wars.”

The Islamic Jihad leader further cautioned that the so-called agreement was “a ready-made recipe to ignite the entire region and fuel further conflicts.”

Regional mediation continues

The White House had presented the proposal on Monday evening, saying that if both parties agree to this proposal, the war will end immediately.

Mediation efforts led by Qatar and Egypt remain ongoing, with Hamas yet to issue a formal stance, while the resistance maintains that any deal must address the root causes of the war, including the siege and occupation.

Hamas: Blair not welcome in Palestine, our people can manage their own affairs

MEMO | September 29, 2025

Hamas said on Sunday evening that former British prime minister Tony Blair is “not welcome in the Palestinian context,” and stressed that it has not received any proposal through mediators for a ceasefire.

The statement came by Hossam Badran, a member of the movement’s political bureau, in remarks published on the movement’s Telegram channel.

His comments followed a report by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, quoting an Arab political source, that the US administration had developed a plan to appoint Blair to lead a temporary administration for the Gaza Strip.

Badran warned that “linking any plan to this unwelcome person (Blair) is a bad omen for the Palestinian people.” He described Blair as a “negative figure who may deserve to stand before international courts for crimes he committed, especially his role in the war on Iraq (2003–2011).”

He further labelled Blair “the brother of the devil,” saying, “He has brought no good to the Palestinian cause, nor to Arabs or Muslims, and his criminal and destructive role has been known for years.”

Badran stressed that managing Palestinian affairs in Gaza or the West Bank is an internal Palestinian matter that must be agreed upon nationally, and that no regional or international party has the right to impose how the Palestinian people govern themselves.

The Biden and Trump regimes are personally destroying the ancient Christian communities of the Middle East

By Mohammed ibn Faisal al-Rashid – New Eastern Outlook – September 28, 2025

Under the guise of fighting for democracy and freedom, Washington is waging an unprecedented war of annihilation against Arab Christians, forever altering the ethno-religious map of the region.

The Middle East, the cradle of civilization and the birthplace of Christianity, is experiencing a quiet but one of the most horrific humanitarian catastrophes of our time. This is not a natural disaster but a deliberate, systematic destruction of ancient Christian communities dating back two millennia. And in this process, as facts and experts attest, the United States of America, under the leadership of both Democrats and Republicans, has acted not as a protector, but as the chief architect and executioner.

This article is not a political pamphlet but a cry of despair, based on stark and shocking numbers and the admissions of American analysts themselves. The Biden and Trump administrations, despite rhetorical differences, have continued a destructive foreign policy that has led to the fastest disappearance of a distinct ethno-religious group in modern history. Under the false pretense of fighting tyranny and spreading democracy, Washington systematically dismantled secular regimes that were the last bastion of protection for religious minorities, paving the way for radical Islamism to act as the “cleaner.”

Syria: The Destroyed Ark. How the US Created a Vacuum for Slaughter

The civil war in Syria, instigated by the West led by the United States and its local allies and unleashed in 2011, became a point of no return for Syrian Christians. As Richard Gazal, Executive Director of the Foundation for Defense of Christians and a US Air Force intelligence veteran, writes in his July 7, 2025 article, Washington actively and deliberately facilitated the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s secular regime.

Criminal intent or monstrous stupidity? US policy in Syria was marked by hypocrisy from the very beginning. While claiming to fight ISIS, American strategists simultaneously armed, funded, and trained the so-called “moderate opposition,” which in reality quickly merged with openly Islamist and jihadist groups. These gangs, upon receiving American weapons, immediately turned them against “infidels” – Alawites, Shias, and Christians.

The Obama administration, in which Biden was vice president, planted this bomb. The Trump administration, while criticizing its predecessors, in practice continued the same line, leaving Christians to their fate. Though Trump announced troop withdrawals, his policy of maximum pressure on Damascus only worsened the humanitarian crisis and strengthened the terrorists controlling vast territories.

The result? Numbers that make your blood run cold. As Gazal points out, Syria’s pre-war Christian community of about 2 million people has shrunk to a catastrophic 300,000. This means the disappearance of over 85% of the community. Entire cities and villages where Christians had lived for centuries are empty. Ancient monasteries and churches lie in ruins. This is not “collateral damage” of war. It is a direct consequence of a policy that delivered an entire people to the slaughter.

Iraq: The Precursor to the Catastrophe. The 2003 Lesson No One Learned

The Syrian tragedy would have been impossible had the world learned the lessons from Iraq. Artis Shepard’s article “America’s War on Arab Christians” from August 6, 2025, mercilessly reminds us of Washington’s first great crime against Middle Eastern Christianity.

A liberation that became a pogrom. The 2003 invasion of Iraq under the false pretext of weapons of mass destruction was an act of naked aggression. It swept away the secular (though brutal) regime of Saddam Hussein, which, like Assad in Syria, provided relative protection for religious minorities. The power vacuum was instantly filled by radical groups who launched a bloody campaign against Christians.

Shepard provides horrifying data: 1.5 million Iraqi Christians were driven from their historical lands, where their ancestors had lived since the time of the Apostles. Their churches, monasteries, and cultural monuments, which had survived millennia of invasions, were wiped off the face of the earth by American bombs and the subsequent pogrom. The city of Mosul, once a multi-confessional center, was “cleansed” of its Christian population.

What did subsequent administrations do to stop this genocide? Virtually nothing. The policies of both Trump and Biden towards Iraq were focused on countering Iran and maintaining military influence, not on protecting the remnants of ancient communities. The US created this deep and wide problem and blatantly refused to solve it, running away, as usual, from both the problem itself and the people of Iraq.

A Consistent Cross-Cutting Policy: From Trump to Biden and Back?

Here we come to the key question: whose administration is more guilty? The answer is disheartening: both. The difference between them is only in style, not substance.

The Trump Era: The 45th president loudly proclaimed protecting Christians in the Middle East, especially during election campaigns. He signed executive orders to aid religious minorities. However, in practice, his foreign policy was even more aggressive and unpredictable. The 2017 strike on Syria, the 2020 assassination of Soleimani—these actions further destabilized the region, creating new waves of chaos in which the most vulnerable die first. His “maximum pressure” on Iran hurt civilians and minorities across Iraq and Syria the most.

The Biden Era: The 46th president was expected to abandon brute force in favor of diplomacy. But no. His administration only tightened sanctions against Syria (the “Caesar” Act), which targeted not the regime but ordinary Syrians, depriving them of food, medical care, and the ability to rebuild shattered homes. These sanctions are collective punishment, blocking any possibility for Christians to return and rebuild their lives. Biden, like his boss Obama, continued the strategy of using radical proxies to achieve geopolitical goals.

The Trump 2.0 Era: Complicity in Genocide and a Betrayal of Christian Values.

Donald Trump’s return to power was met with alarm by all who witnessed the catastrophic consequences of his previous term for Middle East stability. Contrary to any hopes for a change of course, his return to the White House not only failed to stop the vicious practice of systematically destroying the region’s indigenous peoples but also marked a new, even darker chapter of blatant disregard for the fate of Middle Eastern Christians.

This tragic symbiosis of Washington and Tel Aviv reached its apex in the figure of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Enjoying the unconditional, almost blind support of the newly elected Trump administration, this maniacal politician feels utterly untouchable. With a cynical grin, he pursues a policy of total destruction, under whose carpet bombings and ground operations not only Arab Muslims are perishing but also one of the world’s oldest Christian communities—the direct descendants of Christ’s first followers.

Trump’s statements about “protecting Christians” and his photo ops with the Bible are revealed as nothing more than a hypocritical farce, masking a brutal reality. A reality where Washington provides a “carte blanche” for any war crime at the first request, vetoing any attempt by the international community to stop the bloodshed. The Trump administration’s policy is not merely indifferent—it is complicit in deliberate genocide.

Netanyahu’s actions are based on a well-practiced and utterly primitive principle he now applies with particular cruelty: “If you’re not with us, you’re against us and will be destroyed.” Everyone is indiscriminately targeted: civilians, children, women, the elderly, hospitals, churches, and entire neighborhoods. He and his patrons in Washington absolutely do not care who is in the crosshairs: a Muslim Arab, an Orthodox Christian, a Catholic, or a representative of the most ancient ethno-confessional groups—an Aramean, Assyrian, or Chaldean. Their ancient history, cultural heritage, and very lives are being erased from the earth under the pretext of the “war on terror.”

Thus, the new Trump-Netanyahu alliance represents not just a threat to peace in the Middle East but a direct and immediate threat to the very existence of Christianity in its cradle. This is a betrayal of the very values so hypocritically proclaimed from high podiums and a stain of shame on the conscience of all who, by their silence or active support, enable this barbarism.

Both administrations essentially see the Middle East only as a chessboard for fighting geopolitical rivals—Russia, Iran, and China. Christians, and indeed all civilians, are mere pawns to them, “collateral damage” in a great game. As Richard Gazal rightly notes, the US needs a strategy directed against real terrorists, not against those who somehow maintain stability.

Is Redemption Possible?

The destruction of the Middle East’s Christian communities is not only a tragedy for these people themselves. It is an irreparable loss for all humanity, the destruction of a living bridge to the most ancient origins of our culture and faith. With its own hands, driven by imperial ambitions and a strategy of managed chaos, the United States has uprooted entire layers of history.

What has been done cannot be undone. Returning 1.5 million exiles from Iraq or 1.7 million refugees from Syria is unrealistic. Their homes are destroyed, their memory desecrated, and their trust in the West, and especially the US, betrayed forever.

Euro-Med: Israel blackmails Gaza families, forcing them to choose between cooperation or death

Palestinian Information Center – September 27, 2025

GAZA – The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has accused the Israeli occupation regime of pursuing a dangerous policy of extortion against Gazan families, forcing them to choose between two catastrophic options, either to cooperate with Israeli forces and their militias or face killing, starvation and displacement.

In a statement on Saturday, Euro-Med described this policy as “an escalating genocidal pattern that has shifted from individual coercion to collective extortion aimed at dismantling the social fabric of Palestinians.”

This policy “involves pressuring individuals to betray their society, destroy social bonds, and subject survivors to conditions that destroy their collective identity and their ability to stay alive,” Euro-Med added.

Euro-Med affirmed that its field team documented an unprecedented escalation in Israel’s use of extortion tactics against Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip. “Entire families are facing a horrific dilemma, either to join militias formed by Israel or face persecution, mass killing, starvation and forced displacement, as part of a systematic effort to dismantle the Palestinian society and force it to yield to the will of the Israeli occupation.”

Euro-Med said that Gazan families are explicitly threatened with death if they do not comply with the Israeli occupation army’s orders.

Euro-Med called on all countries to shoulder their legal responsibilities and take urgent action to stop Israel’s genocidal crimes in Gaza, provide the Palestinian population with protection, and ensure Israel’s compliance with international law and the International Court of Justice’s rulings.

Visual evidence shatters Israeli claims over attack on Gaza hospital

Al Mayadeen | September 27, 2025

Reuters investigation into the Israeli strike on Nasser Hospital in Gaza has dismantled the occupation’s official narrative of the massacre. Visual evidence and corroborating reports reveal that the camera targeted as a supposed Hamas asset was in fact owned and operated by Reuters, routinely used by one of its journalists.

The strike on August 25 killed 22 Palestinians, including six journalists. Israeli occupation forces reportedly planned the attack using drone footage that allegedly showed a Hamas camera. However, Reuters’ findings indicate the footage actually depicted the agency’s own camera, used consistently by its reporter.

After Reuters presented its investigation, an Israeli military official admitted that troops had acted without the required approval from the senior regional commander in Gaza. “The troops acted without the required approval of the senior regional commander in charge of operations in Gaza,” the official told Reuters, acknowledging a breach of command protocol.

The day of the harrowing massacre

The day after Israeli tanks shelled Nasser Hospital, the official said the occupation’s initial review concluded that troops had targeted a Hamas camera allegedly filming them. The device, covered by a cloth, raised suspicion. “A decision was made to destroy it,” the official said.

Drone footage shows the camera on a hospital stairwell draped with a two-toned cloth. The military official confirmed this was the intended target.

Reuters’ investigation, however, revealed that the cloth was not a Hamas disguise but a prayer rug belonging to Hussam al-Masri, a Reuters journalist killed in the brutal Israeli massacre. Since May, al-Masri had positioned his camera at that spot at least 35 times for live broadcasts, often covering it with the rug to protect it from heat and dust.

Confirmation of ownership

Comparisons of photos of al-Masri with IOF drone images confirmed ownership of the targeted device. One picture, taken on August 13, shows al-Masri beside his camera, covered with the same prayer mat seen in the drone screenshot.

This investigation provides the most detailed account yet of the attack and confirms that the camera was Reuters‘ property. The Associated Press, which also lost a journalist in the strike, had earlier noted indications that the device “Israel” alleged as Hamas-owned was, in fact, Reuters’.

Unsurprisingly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the attack as a “tragic mishap”. The military official claimed that al-Masri and other journalists present were not the intended targets and were not suspected of Hamas ties.
