Palestine state: Israeli nightmare or last push for two-state solution?

Press TV -November 3, 2014

In recent weeks two countries – Sweden and the UK – have recognized Palestine as a state. The UK parliament vote in particular – during which MPs heavily criticized Israel and its settlement policies – was hailed by many Palestinian activists as a great step forward.

On today’s show we’ll be looking at the significance of these latest developments. With direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority going nowhere, will increasing international recognition of Palestine put more pressure on Tel Aviv?

Or is this the international community’s last attempt at salvaging the two-state solution, which many Palestinians themselves now reject?

  1. Palestine is expecting Jerusalem as their city once they are recognised. The Biblical truth of the matter is Jerusalem is a city belonging to Israel and its people. Because that’s where Jesus was born, died and was buried and is regarded as their most holy site. The muslums on the other hand, their most holy place is Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. Their second most holy place is in Medina where their prophet Muhammed was laid to rest in Medina. I think these two locations are sufficient for the Muslims and let Jerusalem be city for the Jewish and Israeli people. Then we do not have to have problem over ownership of Israel. Just like US has Washington DC, UK has London, Italy has Rome. Every country have their own capital cities so lets just release Jerusalem to the Jewish/Israelis and her people. Perhaps let the Palestinians have their state but their capital city and most holy sites be in Mecca and Medina and leave Jerusalem alone to her people.

    • Palestinian Arabs had between 1948-1967 to create East Jerusalem as their capital city with the stroke of an Arab League pen and were totally disinterested in doing so. It is a little late 47 years later to seek what was rejected in that 19 years window of opportunity

  2. The UK vote was not a binding vote obliging the UK to recognize the State of Palestine – with more than half the parliamentarians absent when that non-binding vote was taken.

Sweden’s decision – supposedly made on the basis of certain criteria in international law having been fulfilled – is false and misleading. The Swedish Foreign Minister’s assertion that it was based on the opinion of three law professors in an article published by them on 20 October is not correct.

  3. Palestine is the ancestral homeland of the Palestinian people, no one else. The Jewish interlopers are outsiders having no connection to the land of any kind.
