Iron Dome’s ‘Inefficiency’ Revealed by Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Escalation – Expert

The massive attack launched by Hamas militants against Israel on October 7 was accompanied by a series of rocket launches, many of which managed to bypass Israeli defenses and hit their targets.

Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system is widely regarded as one of the best in the world. That said, it apparently failed to completely negate the Palestinian rocket barrage on Saturday.

Commenting on this failure, Russian military historian and Museum of Air Defense Forces’ Director Yuri Knutov pointed out that while Iron Dome is a very advanced and sophisticated air defense system, it has drawbacks that can be exploited by any enemy.

For one, a single Iron Dome battery can protect a relatively small area (about 150 square kilometers).

Secondly, Knutov noted, Iron Dome is extremely effective when dealing with a small number of incoming targets all of which approach from the same direction.

“In case of a more intensive barrage, involving at least about 100 rockets, the Iron Dome usually fails to do its job and up to 90 percent of the rockets bypasses it and strike the intended targets,” he claimed.

The historian also observed that Hamas militants deliberately launched mass rocket salvos from different directions, apparently in order to overwhelm the Israeli Iron Dome defenses.

“When it (an Iron Dome system) intercepts the first salvo, when it is dealing with those rockets, it is unable to deal with the second salvo that was fired practically a minute after the first one. And so the rockets from the second, third and fourth salvos reach their targets practically unopposed,” he said, arguing that this tactic essentially capitalizes on Iron Dome’s “inefficiency.”

Furthermore, a single Iron Dome interceptor missile costs at least $20,000 while Palestinian jury-rigged rockets – the threat Iron Dome systems usually have to deal with – cost only about $2,000-$3,000 apiece, Knutov added.

Knutov did, however, praise the Iron Dome’s radar unit capabilities and the interceptor missiles this air defense system uses, describing both of them as quite “interesting.”

He also noted that Iron Dome can determine whether an incoming missile poses a threat to a populated area or a military facility and refrain from wasting ammo on a projectile that would otherwise crash in a deserted area.

What Does Iron Dome Do?

Iron Dome is an Israeli-made air defense system designed to intercept and destroy ballistic missiles and artillery shells fired from distances of 4 to 70 kilometers.

Developed during the late 2000s by Israeli defense contractor Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the Iron Dome was first deployed in 2011 and has since been actively used by IDF to counter rocket strikes conducted by Palestinian militants.

An Iron Dome battery typically consists of several launcher units (the payload of each consists of 20 interceptor missiles), a radar unit and a control unit.

Israeli Intelligence Services’ Failure & Merkava Fiasco

According to Knutov, the fact that Hamas militants managed to prepare thousands of rockets for this attack in secret, not to mention train all those militant squads that launched incursions into Israeli territory on October 7, effectively means that Israel’s intelligence agencies failed to do their job properly.

Meanwhile, Hamas militants displayed what looks like special operations tactics, with teams of militants using paragliders and executing amphibious landings in order to bypass Israeli forces and storm Israeli military bases, Knutov said.

He also described reports about an Israeli Merkava main battle tank, “which was portrayed as the best tank of in the world and which was equipped with Trophy active protection system and with dynamic protection,” being disabled by a Palestinian militant armed with a fairly antiquated anti-tank weapon as surprising.

“The first tank was taken out with an old RPG-7 grenade launcher loaded with a shaped charge that punched straight through the tank’s frontal armor,” he said.

The fact that neither the vaunted Trophy system nor Merkava’s armor and dynamic protection managed to save the tank from destruction essentially means that all of them are not as good as advertised, to put it mildly, Knutov suggested.

  1. The failure to detect and prevent the Hamas attack on Israel can be compared to the failure of the much touted and over priced 17 US intelligence agencies, particularly CIA and NSA, that failed to prevent 911.

    This is reminiscent of 911 when Americans were told that the US intel community failed on their part to detect and interdict the hijackers. Contradicting that line of BS, was former CIA back channel agent to Iraq, Susan Lindauer. Ms Lindauer attempted to alet members of the Bush administration in August 2001, that a planned attack on US cities by terrorists using hijacked US commercial aircraft was “imminent”. Saddam was known to have one of the best intelligence capabilities in the Middle East and it was he that provided Ms. Lindauer with information on Al Qaeda and Saudi Arabia’s involvement in the preparation for carrying out an attack on the US. Ms Lindauer personally gave Condi Rice, Bush’s National Security Director, Iraq’s information. To Ms Lindauer’s amazement Rice ignored Iraq’s information. Ms. Lindauer then took the information to the US Justice Dept. She was rebuffed and ignored again. After reading Ms. Lindauer’s book on the subject, I learned that Ms. Lindauer was later arrested by the FBI in a raid on her home. She was take to a prison in Pensacola, FL where she was kept incognito without due process. She was charged with being an agent of Iraq but after a year the charges were dropped and she was released. To this day, the truth behind 911 is kept secret by the FBI.
    A Florida internet news group, the Florida Bulldog filed a FOIA request with the FBI to get access to 85000 pages of FBI documents obtained by the FBI after their two year investigation of the hijackers living in Florida. To this day they are kept from the American people by the FBI for national security reasons. The FBI turned down the Florida Bulldog’s request. The Bulldog sued in court to force their release. As far as I know the judge in the case didn’t rule in the
    Florida Bulldog’s favor. Robert Mueller was appointed director of the FBI after 911. And it was he who kept them from the American public.

    Getting back to the Hamas attack on Israel, an attack of this magnitude could not have been planned and prepared for in secret without Mossad learning of it. The Mossad must have gathered intel communications transmitted between Hamas and its Palestinian fighters but didn’t take action to prevent it. The operational planning for the attack must have taken months and yet if we’re to believe Israeli authorities, Mossad and all the other intel capabilities of Israel failed and they were caught off guard by an attack that involved air, land, and sea assault units belonging to Hamas.

    It’s reminiscent of 911 when US air defense systems designated to protect the skies around Washington, DC, failed to deploy in time to prevent the attack on the Pentagon. Someone ordered the jets to stand down. After what Susan Lindauer described in her book, it was someone in the Bush administration. There was probably at one time a record of that phone call.
    For it was made public that someone with access to the communications codes necessary to communicate with Airforce One called President Bush while he was being flown all over the place and finally to Offutt Air force base, Nebraska, home of US nuclear missile command. The call was believed intended to inform Bush that forces inside the US but out of the President’s control were involved in 911. And that THEY were in charge.

  2. Al Qaeda means “the base” in Arabic and refers to the CIA’s operational base in Afghanistan. Robin Cook and others have said it was actually the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen who the CIA recruited and trained to defeat the Russians.

    The stand-down order was given by Dick Cheney, as recounted by Norman Mineta. This prevented fighter jets from taking out Rabbi Dov Zakheim’s System Planning Corporation (SPC) Flight Termination System (FTS) 9/11 planes. Rabbi Zakheim’s planes were directed into the secure computer room in the North Tower, right smack into Zionist Maurice Greenberg and Zionist Jules Kroll’s Marsh-McLennan Company.

    Zakheim was a signer of the PNAC document that evolved from Oded Yinon’s “A Strategy For Israel in the 1980’s” which itself was a continuation of Zionist/Jewish Supremacist planning going back to the mid 1800’s and earlier. Yinon was a senior official in the Israeli Foreign Ministry, one of the most important sectors of the government responsible for implementing Israel’s foreign policy. He was also an adviser to terrorist and war criminal Ariel “the Butcher of Lebanon” Sharon (Scheinermann).

    Zakehim was also in charge of the Department of Defense’s flow of money and on the day before 9/11/01, war criminal Donald Rumsfeld announced that $2.3 trillion had vanished. By the time Zakheim stepped down, another trillion dollars had gone missing, totaling $3.3 trillion that seemingly couldn’t be accounted for. But when Israel received a weapons package in the form of a military surplus from Bush’s neo-conservative Zionist administration, including a fleet of F-16 and F-15 fight jets, it was none other than Zakheim who negotiated the deal. These new planes would be used in brutal Israeli genocides inflicted against Lebanon in 2006 and Gaza in 2008-09.

    If there is a record of the call, Israel has it, because Zionist Morris Kahn’s Amdocs and Zionist Kobi Alexander’s Comverse keep records of all things public and private in the United States via their telephone “data processing” and wiretapping services.

    • Mineta was referring to stand-down orders specifically for “flight 77” that hit the Pentagon. I put “flight 77” in quotes because the Pentagon was most likely hit by an unmanned global hawk, not a Boeing 757. Stand-down orders weren’t necessary for the planes that were indeed, as you correctly state, precision-guided via remote control into the secure computer room of Greenberg and Kroll’s Marsh McLennan.

      Remember too that Ahmad Ajaj, a Palestinian who was imprisoned in connection with the 1993 WTC bombing, was exposed by investigative reporter Robert Friedman as a Mossad agent who was trained in an Israeli prison. It was Ajaj who was portrayed by the Zionist media as the ‘author’ of ‘Al-Qaeda’ terrorist manuals based on information received by the FBI. This was a Mossad PSYOP to establish Ajaj as a ‘legitimate’ activist amongst Palestinians.

      It was dual Israeli-American citizen Rabbi Dov Zakheim’s Tridata Corporation, a subsidiary of his Systems Planning Corporation, that was granted the contract to oversee the investigation which commenced after the botched 1993 bombing, and as such gained valuable intelligence with their unlimited access to the World Trade Center.
