Brewing truth: Climate doomsayers’ cooked up coffee crisis

Every day, people across the world wake up to news about climate change affecting their lives. With the seeming randomness of a roulette wheel, the doomsday clique of the climate world daily selects a fresh topic to sow seeds of anxiety among the populace.

Popular things easily recognized — even cherished — by people are continually identified as being at risk of being damaged or destroyed by climate change. Coffee, for example, is a commodity experiencing a surge in popularity, and there are no prizes for guessing what climate doomsayers are saying now.

Yes, coffee is now said to be under threat from man-made climate change. CNN, in a recent article, made this statement: “climate change poses a huge threat to the coffee business and to farmers.” Keeping with its customary approach of presenting climate change as a threat to all manner of things, CNN quotes the Inter-American Development Bank as warning that “rising temperatures will reduce the area suitable for growing coffee by up to 50%.”

Is this claim true?  If so, plenty of people would be affected, because coffee is selling like hot cakes.

The brew is a staple in nearly 98% of households in Brazil.  According to the 2023 National Coffee Data Trends Report, coffee consumption in the U.S. has hit a 20-year peak, with over 50% of consumers gravitating toward specialty coffee.

Even in my home country, India, there is a sudden deluge of boutique coffee shops. Some chains have opened as many as 50 branches within a span of five years, and that is not an easy task in a country of 1.3 billion tea-lovers. India is now the eighth largest producer of coffee beans.

More than 99% of global coffee production comprises the arabica and robusta species, which are just two of over 140 different species in the Coffea genus. Coffea, especially arabica, depends highly on soil fertility and temperature.

The purveyors of climate apocalypse are particularly interested in the temperature aspect, as it provides a legitimate pathway for indulging in climate scaremongering. Despite widespread concern about increasing warmth, satellite temperature data collected from 1979 to 2023 indicate that there has not been a significant rise in temperatures.

Besides, it is widely acknowledged that warming since the Little Ice Age and increased atmospheric CO2 since the Industrial Revolution have boosted agricultural production and the general greening of ecosystems.

Scientists in Brazil have discovered that “carbon dioxide fertilization offsets negative impacts of climate change on arabica coffee yield.” They say that the CO2 fertilization effect will cause a net increase of the average Brazilian arabica coffee harvest by the years 2040–2070.

CO2 enrichment studies in Latin America show that elevated CO2 increased photosynthesis by 40% and increased the efficiency plants’ water use by approximately 60%. Higher CO2 eventually caused a 7–14% increase in plant height and a 12–14% increase in yield.  Another study showed that there were significant increases in all leaf area and biomass markers in response to increased CO2.

The research indicates that we might already be reaping the rewards of increased productivity rates in both arabica and robusta coffee varieties thanks to the recent rise in atmospheric CO2. This reality is reflected in the plantations across the globe.  Production in South America and Southeast Asia have shown increases in yield during the past two decades.

Brazil and Vietnam are the top two coffee bean producers. Both countries have seen remarkable increases in their yield, with Vietnam’s production climbing from 0.54 tons per acre in 2002 to 1.11 tons per acre in 2021. Meanwhile, Brazil’s yield has also shown significant growth, rising from 0.49 tons per acre in 2002 to 0.87 tons per acre in 2020.

Even if the temperatures were to increase dramatically, experts say that coffee cultivation would be possible in cooler regions at latitudes away from equator or at higher altitudes.

So sit back and drink that morning cup of Joe. Climate is not going to steal your coffee, and thank CO2 for keeping the plantations productive.

  1. This is very good (no more coffee) because scientists have proven that coffee causes cancer and a myriad of other problems, except when coffee reduces the chances of cancer which other scientists have said.
    But what I want to know is what will be the effect of the coming ice age on the consumption of coffee? We know that ‘global boiling’ is over and eagerly await the next horrific climate prophecy.

  2. The universally hated Anglo-Dutch oligarchy, today known as the Anglo-American oligarchy, with its junior partner being from New York’s Wall Street district, represent the super rich 1% of the world’s population that is in control up to this point.
    Their “underlings” are the politicians. These are men and women of low character who do what the oligarchy tells them. They pretend to represent constituents to get them elected, but in reality they have already sold out to the oligarchy. If elected they must remain obedient to the Establishment regardless of Party affiliation.
    Today, many citizens have caught on, calling both Democrat and Republican Parties the “Uni-Party.”

    And so it is. War is no longer the means to win the peace. War and its continuation is the objective. False pretenses as well as false flags are used to target new monsters to destroy. When was the last time a vote was taken in Congress to declare war? Would you believe it was WWII. The super rich Eastern Establishment profits immensely from war. They will not give it up without a fight. Nor will they risk Congress becoming influenced by the people who elected them. U.S. citizens don’t want their sons and daughters flown thousands of miles to foreign lands to fight in unjust wars of attrition that only benefit the makers of war.

    The lower 94% of people on earth have been grouped into different categories of cattle by the oligarchy. Ruling families such as the Duponts, Mellons and Morgans, Brown Bros and Harrimans of which Prescott Bush the son of GHW Bush, belong, have a unique and long history of racially motivated depopulation. Prescott Bush was in fact the banker who bailed Hitler out of jail when the German government threatened Hitler for non payment of debt Hitler’s party owed the German government.
    But even as disgustingly distasteful as it seemed to many, western bankers were betting heavily on Hitler’s rise to power. which It would mean pouring a lot of money into Germany to rearm Germany in order to go to war with Russia.
    Russia, with its vast natural resources, was the perfect target for City of London and Wall Street bankers. Russia represented the Brass Ring. Arming Germany was the way to get it.

    As for Germany, these same financial interests intended the German economy to be built on the backs of slave labor. It would make them huge profits so they did not want to risk losing Germany to an alternative plan that was in the works to get trade going between Germany and Russia. Russian oil for German technology that was the basis for negotiation was a threat to Hitler and his backers. So, in order to secure support for Hitler, German finance minister Hjalmar Schacht traveled to London and NY to meet with top bankers. They all gave their approval and backed Hitler and the slave labor that would kill several million mostly Jewish men, women and children! Since their view of mankind was racist at its core bankers cared not that so many human lives would be ground up in what amounted to death camps.

    What has changed? The bubble economy is bankrupt! Making the global casino soon to go the way of the Dodo Bird! The era of exuberant speculation is over! The collapse of the 2 quadrillion derivatives bubble threatens the existence of the financial speculators. What they have done with their crazy derivatives, is similar to that of John Law’s 18th century South Sea bubble and Mississippi bubble that collapsed the French and British government’s, together with the thousands of investors who purchased the bubbles’ worthless paper. The difference today lies in the scale of indebtedness and NATO’s role as the enforcer of the bankers to keep nations in line. The other difference is, that for the past ten years the BRICS+ nations have advanced the cause of a multi-polar world that seeks peace through development. Helga Zepp-LaRouche of the Schiller Institute has described what has occurred as the global majority coming together to create a new economic order of perfectly sovereign nations states. What they must have now, she said, is a new international security and development architecture that expresses Ten Principles Zepp-LaRouche has put forth.
