Lies are Unbekoming | January 27, 2026
In honour of Michael Parenti (1933–2026), who passed away on 24 January 2026 at the age of 92. He spent his life naming what power prefers to leave unnamed.
In 1837, Abraham Lincoln remarked: “These capitalists generally act harmoniously, and in concert, to fleece the people.”
Today, he would be dismissed as a conspiracy theorist.
That dismissal—reflexive, automatic, requiring no engagement with evidence—is not a mark of sophistication. It is a tell. The question worth asking is not whether conspiracies exist (they are a matter of public record and a recognised concept in law) but why acknowledging their existence provokes such reliable hostility. What work does the label “conspiracy theorist” actually do?
The late political scientist Michael Parenti spent decades answering that question. His conclusion was blunt: “’Conspiracy’ refers to something more than just illegal acts. It serves as a dismissive label applied to any acknowledgment of ruling-class power, both its legal and illegal operations.” The term functions not as a descriptor but as a weapon—a thought-terminating cliché that protects the powerful from scrutiny by pathologising those who scrutinise them.
Conspiracy denial, in Parenti’s analysis, is not skepticism. It is the opposite of skepticism. It is credulity toward power dressed up as critical thinking. Here in professsor Glenn Diesen’s native Norway today, the leader of annual wage negotiations between workers and industry ownars brazenly declared :
“Potin has done his best to sabotage the main part of (Norwegian) primary industry’s wage-negotiatians from the year 2021 and until now,”

The reason, according to the leader of Norwegian trade unions’ wage negotiators, is tha Putin has sabotaged and stopped natural gas deliveries to “Europe” (meaning Western Europe) .. and thereby jacked up prices of gas and electricity also in Norway.
I feel almost ashamed on his and Norway’s account, because he does not mention that our homeland is self-sufficient in hydro-electricity, petroleum — and natural gas too. Most of the export of energy to EU counties cets sold bu´y Norwegian state-owned enterprises. So it should be just a very small piece of cake to provide energy at lower prices locally in Norway — a matter overlooked by the main negotiatoer on behalf of our wage-earners. The age of Vitcun Qvisling isn’t over as of jet!

It disturbs me that all three participants talk about the Westen-European and North-American Atlantis states using the very word “WE”: I think that thay should learn the pronoun “THEY” instead,

these wordings are ackin to when Norwegians talk of Israël as belonging in the “Middle East” even when lying directly south of half of Norway. Or Talking of “Europe” when half of it lies to the weste of Polen and of Lithuania and Finland.
