Austria heads towards record number of bankruptcies in 2024
Remix News | December 2, 2024
Austria is heading for a record year in terms of bankruptcies, with more than 7,000 companies forecasted to go under by the end of 2024. That equals an average of 22 firms going under every single day in a population of only 10 million.
Notably, the country is experiencing many of the same issues neighboring Germany is facing: high energy costs, lower demand for goods, an aging workforce, high inflation input costs, and anti-business policies.
According to Austrian media outlet Horizont, 2024 is expected to produce the most bankruptcies in Austria in 15 years.
“Austria is heading for a new record year of corporate insolvencies. The reason is a toxic mix of declining exports, collapsing domestic consumption, and high costs. High unit labor costs, high material and energy costs together with excessive regulation are making it difficult for more and more companies to be successful in Austria,” said Gerhard Weinhofer, an official at the creditor protection association Creditreform.
The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), which won national elections this year but was sidelined from power by rival parties who formed a coalition against it, is using the case to illustrate the crisis presented by the ruling government.
“This year, Austria is heading for a record year of bankruptcies. More than 7,000 corporate bankruptcies are forecast for 2024 – a new record in 15 years. ÖVP Chancellor Karl Nehammer and ÖVP Economics Minister Martin Kocher in particular have caused severe damage to the economy and Austria as a business location,” said FPÖ economic spokesman Axel Kassegger.
Kassegger notes that the new government, referred to as the traffic-light coalition, is likely to make matters worse. “And it is to be feared that the planned traffic light coalition will not be able to clear away this unique economic policy mess. This will prolong the left-wing anti-citizen and anti-business course of the black-green coalition, fuel inflation and further weaken our business location.”
Austria is not only facing bankruptcies; wage and job cuts are plaguing the country, along with plant closures.
“Our country urgently needs the long overdue reforms for it as a business location, relief measures for companies and employees. Our companies are still suffering from the very high costs of energy and transport, as well as from wage costs, which have increased sharply due to the still high inflation,” said Kassegger.
Last month, Russia entirely cut off natural gas supplies to Austira. The FPÖ argues for peace negotiations with Russia in order to restore the country’s cheap energy supplies.
“Electricity and gas network costs are rising massively, which will lead to enormous additional burdens for the Austrian population. Industry is still waiting for the extension of the Electricity Price Cost Compensation Act to relieve the burden on energy-intensive industry in particular. An extension of these measures this year is therefore a must, because time is of the essence,” he added.
Sex education booklet handed out to 9-year-olds at Austrian middle school open day
By Thomas Brooke | Remix News | December 2, 2024
Parents are outraged after a middle school in Austria distributed an educational booklet containing explicit content, including a “sex dictionary” and gender role-playing exercises, to elementary school students during an open day.
The material, deemed inappropriate by many, has sparked significant backlash.
The booklet, given as a souvenir to 9- and 10-year-old students visiting the middle school in Bezirk Melk district, Lower Austria, included graphic illustrations of naked individuals, including a wheelchair user and a Black man.
It also featured explanations of terms like “transsexual,” “intersexual,” “drag queen,” and “transgender.” One exercise asked students to consider what steps a boy named Leo would need to take to become Jennifer, including avoiding boys’ restrooms.
“This is going way too far for a 10-year-old girl,” a father of three told Kronen Zeitung who spoke of his shock when his daughter brought the booklet home. “You have to remember that this was given to children aged nine and ten. The gift clearly missed the target group,” he added, expressing dismay over the booklet’s focus on sexuality.
The origin of the booklet remains unclear, but several parents reported that it was distributed by the school’s headmistress.
The incident has prompted questions about oversight and the appropriateness of the material for young children.
The controversy has drawn criticism from political figures, including Michael Sommer, education spokesman for the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ). “Children should be allowed to remain children and not be negatively influenced by left-wing rainbow propaganda during their early development,” he said, calling for an immediate halt to what he described as “transgender indoctrination.”
The incident highlights broader tensions in Austria regarding sex education and the inclusion of topics like gender identity in school curricula. Critics argue such materials are inappropriate for elementary-aged children, while proponents maintain that education on diversity and inclusion is essential for fostering understanding and acceptance.
Neighboring Hungary brought in legislation under the administration of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán prohibiting the distribution of such publications.
Under the child protection law, the Hungarian government acknowledged that parents primarily have the right and duty to decide how children are brought up and educated about questions related to their sexual behavior and gender identity.
Earlier this year, the Bulgarian parliament also passed legislation to prohibit the promotion of LGBT ideology in schools.
Vienna police ban mass protest supporting excluded Freedom Party’s ‘People’s Chancellor’ Herbert Kickl
By Thomas Brooke | Remix News | November 28, 2024
A massive protest planned for Saturday in Vienna to support Freedom Party (FPÖ) leader Herbert Kickl, who was excluded from ongoing government negotiations despite winning the most votes in the recent election, has been banned by the police.
Heute reported that the rally was expected to draw 1.4 million participants and was organized by the group Fair Thinking, which gained notoriety among the Austrian establishment for its demonstrations during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The protest, promoted as a show of support for “People’s Chancellor Kickl,” sought to challenge the so-called “sugar coalition” of parties negotiating to form the government. The FPÖ and Kickl, despite their electoral success, were left out of talks, fueling outrage among his supporters.
Kickl, who previously appeared at Fair Thinking’s protests, has become a popular figure among many Austrians, representing opposition to Covid policies, insisting on neutrality in the Ukraine conflict, and expressing dissatisfaction with Austria’s political elite over its commitment to mass immigration.
The initial protest date of Nov. 9, which coincided with the anniversary of the 1938 Nazi pogroms, drew condemnation from political leaders, including Chancellor Karl Nehammer, who called the timing a “slap in the face to victims’ relatives.”
President Alexander Van der Bellen also expressed strong disapproval, leading to organizers postponing the event to Nov. 30.
On Thursday, however, Vienna police announced the prohibition of the protests under Section 6 Paragraph 1 of Austria’s Assembly Act. The justification cited potential disruptions to businesses in Vienna’s shopping districts and the flow of traffic.
A statement from the police warned: “Holding an unannounced or prohibited meeting constitutes an administrative violation. Such meetings can be dissolved, and participants must disperse immediately.”
Organizers have not backed down, hinting at plans to proceed informally or under different guises. A statement on their Telegram channel invited supporters to “take a walk” in Vienna during Advent and visit Christmas markets, particularly the one at Marien-Theresien-Platz.
Critics have argued that prioritizing undisturbed shopping and traffic flow over freedom of assembly sets a dangerous precedent amid fear this rationale could be used to justify arbitrary bans on protests, limiting democratic expression.
The ban has further inflamed tensions in Austria’s political landscape, highlighting deep divisions over Kickl’s exclusion from government negotiations.
Kickl’s FPÖ has gained support since topping the September federal elections but being sidelined by other parties in coalition talks, winning Sunday’s state election in Styria with 35.6 percent of the vote.
The legacy Social Democrats (SPÖ) and Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) saw their vote shares drop in what is considered to be punishment for its anti-democratic cordon sanitaire imposed around the FPO.
Austria, Hungary working on reforming EU
By Patrick Poppel | November 5, 2024
After the founding of the “Patriots for Europe” platform in the European Parliament, this group is now beginning its political work. The last recent visit of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to Vienna is clearly related to this project. He was the first international guest to be officially welcomed by the new President of Parliament, Walter Rosenkranz.
This meeting would of course be presented as a scandal by the mainstream media in Austria. Orban also met the leader of the Freedom Party (FPÖ) Herbert Kickl. Since the Vienna-Budapest political axis has been very well established, it can now be expected that this can be the starting point for a new patriotic initiative within the European Union.
During the talks in Vienna, it was repeatedly emphasized that the European Union needs reform. The centralism of the European Union should be pushed back and the role of the nation states should be strengthened. The “Patriots for Europe” are clearly against gender ideology and want to preserve Europe’s cultural heritage.
A very important one is the failed migration policy of the European Union. One can see Viktor Orban’s current visit to Vienna as a starting signal for future campaigns. The meeting between the President of the Austrian Parliament (FPÖ) and the Hungarian Prime Minister had a historic character. Even though the FPÖ is currently not represented in the Austrian government, this party has the chairmanship of parliament due to the large number of votes it receives.
This party also plays an important role in Austria as an opposition force. Since this group of “Patriots for Europe” is also very well networked in other states of the European Union, one can now really speak of an opposition at the European level.
This group is also very important in security policy, as they advocate for a ceasefire in Ukraine. Even political opponents find it difficult to find arguments against this attitude, since the European Union has historically always been seen as a peace project.
What further political developments can we now expect? Orban’s visit to Vienna shows that the cartridges in Europe are very well networked and can react very quickly to developments. The political forces in the various EU states support each other. This is not only important bilaterally, but it will also play an important role in the European Parliament.
Austria and Hungary are now a good role model for the right-wing parties in other countries. It is of course clear that this political struggle in Europe is entering its final round. If the patriots in Europe do not succeed in stopping mass migration and defending peace, irreparable damage will occur in Europe.
This new alliance of patriotic forces at European level is perhaps the last chance for the future of Europe. However, it will be very difficult for all of these movements in the individual states of Europe to implement the necessary reforms, which are urgently needed.
European politics has gone completely wrong in too many areas. It’s not just about asylum policy or foreign policy. Europe’s economic and energy policy development is also catastrophic. It will take a lot of time to correct the mistakes of the last few decades, but it is not clear whether Europe still has that much time available.
The system’s parties and media expressed very negative opinions about this visit by the Hungarian Prime Minister because they were surprised by this action. The patriots in Europe are on the rise and the opponents are overwhelmed by this situation. Further elections in other European countries will confirm this trend.
The fact that a panel discussion was organized by a private Swiss media on the sidelines of Viktor Orban’s visit and that this event was fully booked shortly after the announcement also shows that the state media have less and less influence.
So not only are the patriotic forces on the rise, but also the alternative and private media. This means that the system in Europe is coming under increasing pressure. This visit to Vienna marks a historic date in the struggle for the sovereignty of the European peoples, as from now on the established parties have understood that they are not all-powerful.
But the harsh and rude statements from the other parties about this meeting in Vienna also show us clearly that the rhetoric is becoming more and more aggressive. It is therefore to be expected that the political debate will become stronger in the future.
The system loses influence and this leads to confusion and aggression. The patriots in Europe still need to organize and network better in order to be successful. The first steps have been taken, but much more effort is needed to defeat the old system. An important key to this is changing the media world.
Opposition parties and alternative media are the two forces that can bring about the necessary changes and decide the future of the European continent. Viktor Orban will play an important role in this future development.

A Resurrection of the Austro-Hungarian Empire? – Part 21 of the Anglo-American War on Russia
Tales of the American Empire | October 10, 2024
After Russian intervention in Ukraine in 2022, the United States pressured its European vassals to end all trade with Russia, and later China to slow its economic growth that outperforms the United States. This has led to three years of economic decline in European Union economic bloc, known as the EU, as energy prices to tripled.
Europeans are angry, so if victorious Russian troops arrive on Ukraine’s western border, several EU nations may leave the dying EU to relink to prospering Asia and access to cheap Russian energy.
Leaders of some EU nations are openly critical of mandates banning trade and allowing mass immigration. Leaders of Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, and Croatia are quietly discussing the advantages of leaving the EU. These nations were once united into the powerful Austro-Hungarian empire until it was dissolved by victorious France and Britain in 1919. Political, business, and cultural ties remain, so they may form their own economic block. Serbia never joined NATO nor the EU and remains friendly with Russia, so would join this union.
A new Balkan economic block would prosper by allowing trade with Russia, China, Russian controlled Ukraine, and could join forces to guard borders from mass illegal immigration.

Iran slams G7’s ‘irresponsible’ statement on ‘necessary response’ to Israel
Press TV – October 3, 2024
Iran has condemned the Group of Seven (G7)’s “biased and irresponsible” approach toward the developments in West Asia, including Tehran’s “necessary response” to Israel’s acts of aggression.
G7 leaders in a statement on Wednesday condemned Tehran’s launch of more than 180 missiles at Tel Aviv in retaliation for Israel’s assassination of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders and an Iranian military commander.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaee on Thursday “pointed to the definite responsibility of G7 countries, especially the US, in aggravating insecurity and instability in West Asia due to their armament, financial and political support of the aggressor”.
He warned about the serious consequences of this approach on the peace and stability of the region and beyond.
“The recent missile operation by the Islamic Republic of Iran against a combination of military-intelligence targets of the Zionist regime was a necessary response to the acts of aggression by the occupying regime,” Baqaee said.
The operation was “within the framework of the inherent right of legitimate self-defense”, the spokesman said, condemning the use of threats and sanctions to put pressure on the Iranian nation.
Baqaee emphasized Iran’s determination to protect the national security and the vital interests of the Iranian people in the region.
He also criticized the “irresponsible interventions of extra-regional actors, including the US, especially through continuing their all-out support for the Israeli occupation regime” which he described as the “main cause of instability in the West Asia region”.
“If the Group of Seven is really concerned about the peace and security of the region, it should use its leverage to immediately end the Palestinian genocide and stop the aggression of the Zionist regime against Lebanon, Syria and other countries in the region,” he said.
The Foreign Ministry on Thursday said it had summoned the German and Austrian ambassadors after Berlin and Vienna summoned Iran’s representatives to protest the Islamic Republic’s response to the Israeli assassinations.
Zelensky’s Gas Threats Making Europeans ‘Realize It’s Not Profitable to Go to War with Russia’
Sputnik – 28.08.2024
Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Tuesday that Kiev has no plans to “extend the [gas transit] agreement with Russia” after the current arrangement expires December 31. Unable to find alternatives to Russian energy, landlocked Hungary, Slovakia, Austria and the Czech Republic have expressed serious concerns about the fate of the Gazprom-Naftogaz deal.
A decision by Ukraine to cut Central Europe off from access to Russian natural gas via Russia’s only remaining operational gas pipeline to the region “will seriously harm the interests of European consumers who still want to buy Russian gas,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.
“They will simply have to pay much more, which will make their industry less competitive,” Peskov said.
The five-year Gazprom-Naftogaz transit agreement signed in 2019 is set to expire at the end of the year, and Kiev has announced that it has no plans to extend it.
“After the Hungarians, the Slovaks, the Austrians, the Italians, and even the Germans are beginning to realize that it is not profitable to go to war with Russia, pump money into Ukraine, and cut the umbilical cord between the eastern and western half of Europe,” Hungarian Community for Peace president Endre Simo told Sputnik, commenting on Kiev’s threats.
“The European Union has fallen victim to its own policy, as the announcement by… Zelensky fits perfectly into the European Union’s policy of sanctions against Russia,” Simo said.
“Nevertheless, Kiev will probably not be thanked for the move, since the gas will bypass Ukraine, presumably through Turkiye, and from there through the Balkans and Hungary to EU western countries, and will be much more expensive. As a result, consumer goods and services will become even more expensive. Its price will be paid by Western European consumers. It is a question of how much they will accept the further reduction of their purchasing power and the further deterioration of their standard of living,” he added.
“We actually owe Zelensky a debt of gratitude for his decision, as he proved to the country and the world who is a reliable economic partner and who is not. While Ukraine stops the gas supply for political reasons, Russia sees no obstacle to continuing it in other ways,” Simo suggested, emphasizing that the EU will never turn away from Russian gas completely, even if it becomes more expensive thanks to Kiev’s decision, since it will “still” be “cheaper than American liquefied gas.”
Why neutral Austria joined the EU sanctions policy against Russia
By Patrick Poppel | August 14, 2024
It is known that the then Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz campaigned very strongly for the establishment of sanctions against Russia in 2014, but a lot of time has passed since this situation and yet a neutral state like Austria is still in line with the sanctions policy against Russia.
You have to ask yourself why Austria plays such a role even though it doesn’t really fit the identity of a neutral state in full. Austria’s task would be to play a role as a mediator and not as a supporter of the EU’s aggressive policy against Russia. Inexperienced and young politician Sebastian Kurz brought Austria’s foreign policy in accordance with the EU requirements and transatlantic forces and then quickly became Chancellor of Austria.
Behavior against national interests is immediately rewarded by the structures in the background. Although Austria has always been the place for mediation between rivals in Europe, that has changed radically with the support of sanctions against Russia. Back in 2014, Austria was chosen as an example to show all European politicians that it is important to establish sanctions against Russia.
If a neutral state like Austria supports sanctions, then states that are members of NATO will no longer consider discussing them. The unified willingness of all EU states to impose sanctions against Russia can only be explained by the fact that an atmosphere of unanimity was created.
Since sanctions also damage one’s own economy, such a rigid measure must always be carefully analyzed and discussed beforehand. But that was not done because the established political atmosphere made it clear that sanctions must be imposed at all costs.
“If Austria is also for sanctions, then everyone is for it!” was the logic of the politicians. This course started in 2014 and continues to this day without letup.
The argument that if even a neutral state supports the sanctions it is legitimate is, of course, an ingenious manipulation. The question now naturally arises as to whether this situation arose by chance due to the incompetence of Austrian politics or whether it is a planned process. The second possibility becomes more and more likely when the facts are analyzed more closely.
It was immediately clear to everyone that the sanctions would be very dangerous for the Austrian economy and this political action does not fit with the Austrian political culture of neutrality. It is certainly possible that the behavior of politicians was prepared and influenced here from the outside.
The only question is who benefited from it. The large lobby of Austrian business and industry did not benefit from the sanctions. Although this lobby had massive influence on the government at the time, support for sanctions against Russia could not be prevented. Actually, this seems inexplicable for observers. Why weren’t there protests from business people immediately at the start of the sanctions?
There are events in world history that happen by chance and have a major impact on the future, but when it comes to Austria’s sanctions policy against Russia a plan and a structure are clearly visible. Since not a single business in Austria benefited from this development, this operation can only have been controlled from abroad. It will be very difficult to prove this, but this foreign influence is the only explanation for the behavior of Austrian politicians.
Of course, one can also think in detail about the role of the Austrian government which actually has the task of warding off foreign influence on the government. As a small country, Austria is exposed to strong influence from the big geopolitical players.
The fact that many important international organizations are located in Austria also makes Austria a target for foreign secret services, but also a place for general foreign interests. Austrian politicians are more exposed to these influences than politicians from other countries and the agents who work in Vienna easily get contact and access to important people in the state.
The Austrian government’s decision to support sanctions against Russia was not understood by many people because it was against common sense. But we are currently living in a time where a lot of developments are happening in the background. We live in a time in which it is very easy to quickly transmit information and coordinate actions that have been planned long in advance.
Just as the Maidan uprising was planned a long time ago, these forces have dealt with and prepared for the possible establishment of sanctions. If you follow the principle “Who benefits?”, it is clear that the Austrian government’s decision at the time is of no use to the government or the population in the long term. The sanctions only help those who cannot be affected by them.
The current fact that OMV (Austrian Mineral Oil Administration) will withdraw from the contract with its Russian partners can only be explained by external influence. Austrians will have to pay a lot more for gas in the future. The population will accept this because the media does not accurately report the reasons for it. All of these facts can be put together to form a picture and the result is that Austria plays a crucial negative role in imposing sanctions against Russia.

NATO ‘crossed red line’ – Austria
RT | June 9, 2024
Ukraine’s Western sponsors have crossed a boundary when they allowed Kiev to use their weapons to strike at targets in Russia, Austrian Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner said in an interview to Die Presse published on Saturday.
Several NATO members have openly supported the use of Western-produced armaments for cross-border strikes against Russia in recent weeks, ostensibly in a limited manner. The West insists that it is still not a party to the conflict, and only supports Kiev’s efforts to stall Russia’s push into the Kharkov Region, which Moscow launched to move the line of contact away from the border to prevent further Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilians.
“A red line has been crossed,” Tanner stated when asked about the US, France and Germany’s permission to use their weapons in cross-border strikes. When the interviewer asked how else Kiev could stall the Kharkov operation, the Austrian Defense Minister replied that “as a militarily neutral state, it is not our place to judge.”
The Austrian defense chief added that at least she was “very pleased that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has clarified that NATO will not be sending troops to Ukraine.”
Stoltenberg claimed that the US-led military bloc has no plans to deploy ground forces to Ukraine in a press conference on Thursday. Despite this, French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday he was almost ready to finalize an international coalition to officially send Western military “instructors” to train Kiev’s forces in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has stressed that Moscow has long been aware that Western military personnel are already fighting in Ukraine, under the guise of “mercenaries” and “volunteers.”
Western-produced long-ranged armaments used by Kiev in cross-border strikes are also often controlled and serviced by these foreign troops, the Russian president said last month. And even if Ukrainians are pulling the trigger, the US and its allies are the ones providing Kiev intelligence on Russian targets, Putin noted.
Moscow has warned that Western-backed long-range attacks on Russian territories will amount to direct Western participation in the conflict, and that Russia can respond in kind. “We can respond asymmetrically,” the Russian leader said on Wednesday, suggesting that Moscow could supply similar weapons around the world, where they could be used against Western
Western media sees spies and saboteurs everywhere
By Patrick Poppel | April 29, 2024
An article entitled “Spies and Saboteurs” was published in the NZZ (Neue Züricher Zeitung). This choice of words reminds us very much of the time of the Second World War. A Russian agent is now suspected behind every corner in Europe. There were even reports of planned attacks by the Russian secret service on German soil. But most of the allegations concern disinformation and cyberattacks that are intended to destabilize Germany from Russia.
This article in the so-called “quality medium” is not an isolated case in the media world of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Just a few days ago there was a scandal in Austria because an employee of the secret service was accused of working as a spy for Russia. Whether this is true or not, this person was immediately shown to be close to the opposition FPÖ party. In many Austrian media, bizarre connections to other political figures were described, without being able to prove this. The target of this report was clearly not this “agent” but the opposition party.
This anti-Russian opinion formation now flanks the anti-democratic and totalitarian developments, as there is already discussion in Germany about banning a party (AFD) that does not correspond to the mainstream.
The role of the systemic media in manipulating the political landscape must be questioned more closely in the future. Especially because they are financed by public structures. These media create an atmosphere in society, which is used as a basis for discussions in parliament and even changes in laws.
But it’s not just the media that is working against the opposition. There are now also demonstrations against the opposition in Germany, which are massively supported by the state media. These “protests against the right” must be analyzed as an artificially created movement. State-funded media, cultural associations and artists are gathering people here to take to the streets against the opposition.
The AFD in Germany and the FPÖ in Austria are repeatedly described as pro-Russian and individuals there have often been asked to explicitly distance themselves from Russia. Apart from that, these political forces cannot be described as pro-Russian, as they include many transatlantic politicians.
We have to ask ourselves why such a major campaign is now being organized against the opposition. The answer is that the system can no longer explain its own incompetence and work against the state’s sovereign interests. Only when you point your finger at someone do three fingers point back at you.
Fear of Russian espionage and sabotage is currently at a peak in Europe. It is expected that this situation will not change soon. This fear has existed in Eastern Europe for years, but now the West is also mired in this paranoia.
It is important to the media in the West to create threats and enemy images. Russia is currently the target of this propaganda. But in the future it could also become a different state. Just as people are afraid of Russia’s spies today, tomorrow they might be afraid of China’s economy or Africa waking up.
Europe is in a difficult situation due to geopolitical changes. And systems that get into trouble often tend to act irrationally. These are difficult times for the political opposition and happy journalists in Europe. Anyone who doesn’t follow the mainstream is excluded and attacked in the media.
However, these political and media instruments could also be just the beginning of further development. The first arrests have already been made and the investigation is continuing. The search for “enemies of the state” will not stop. In this context, one should just think about who the enemies of democracy are here.
Such a division in society never existed in Western Europe, even during the Cold War. Since the beginning of the Ukraine conflict in 2014, the mass migration in 2015 and the ongoing climate hysteria, society in the West has been divided into two groups. These two groups have no common points of contact with each other.
This is a very dangerous domestic political development. And the current media propaganda is not helping to ease the mood between the government and the opposition. It will only achieve the opposite and divide society even further.
The defamation of the opposition through these espionage scandals is a new stage in the political struggle and allows us to see exactly how cooperation between Western secret services, lobbyists, governments and the media works.
