Aussie TV dares to show the real occupation

I never thought I would see it. A mainstream TV programme, this one made by Australian channel ABC, that shows the occupation in all its inhuman horror.

The 45-minute investigative film concerns the Israeli army’s mistreatment of Palestinian children. Along the way, it provides absolutely devastating evidence that the children’s abuse is not some unfortunate byproduct of the occupation but the cornerstone of Israel’s system of control and its related need to destroy the fabric of Palestinian society.

Omar Barghouti has spoken of Israelis’ view of Palestinians as only “relatively human”. Here that profound racism is on full show.

There are, of course, concessions to “balance” – in the hope of minimising the backlash from Israel – but they do nothing to dilute the power of the message.

This is brave film-making of the highest order.

It is an indication of quite how exceptional this film is that it has cornered Australia’s foreign minister, Julie Bishop, into expressing her “deep concern“. That’s the same Bishop who last month doubted that the settlements in the West Bank were illegal.

  1. Perhaps the Aussie TV also should show the inhumanity of the asylum policy of the Australian government……. putting refugees and asylum seekers in prison camps,treating them as criminals, depriving them of food, legal assistance etc. etc.!

    • Of course, you are right. They have been deliberately quarantined off shore in Papua New Guinea, Nauru etc (like Guantanamo Bay Cuba), where the USA carries out its ‘dirty work’ outside of the American legal system.
      Just like the offshore tax havens used by the Rich, our countries have also devised ways to ‘skirt’ the Legal systems that were once a feature of “Western Democracies”. But the average Australian, or American, is still fully accountable Tax wise and Legal wise. One system for the Rich and Powerful, and another system for us.
      Freedom and Democracy are long dead.

  2. No, no, no! This is so very wrong. It is not even right to treat adults like this but to do it to children should be unacceptable for anyone with a single strand of humanity in their being. I would call these people who do this ‘savages’ were it not an insult to less westernised people who attract that term for far less reason. The plight of the Palestinian people touches me to the depths of my soul that used to only be touched to the same extent for the plight of the Jews as presented through images of a holocaust.

    I agree with the man in the video who found it incredible that those whose people have endured suffering can inflict this on others, who were not even a party to that event. Such behaviour dishonours the memory of those earlier victims. Shame on the Israelis who dishonour their own in this way! And shame on the rest of the world for failing to stop them from doing it!

  3. One other thought. Unless that awful woman in the video can confirm her claim of this ‘promise by God’ by producing said God in a courtroom, I don’t think we can accept her claim as proof that she has more right to the land than the Palestinians do since their claim, while not divine, is, at least verifiable, while hers is not.

  4. If you needed any further indictment that our MSM is corrupted and rotten, this Program is it. Our newspapers and Electronic media are complicit in the crimes of Israel, by failing COMPLETELY to tell us that this has been happening. And now they want to ban “Fake News”(ie, programs which actually tell us the truth).
    It’s no wonder that sites like Aletho, Off-guardian, Counterpunch etc etc are springing up everywhere.
    To HELL with the MSM.
