Debbie Wasserman Schultz labels Trump’s pick for intel chief ‘Russian asset’

RT | November 16, 2024

Tulsi Gabbard, US President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for national intelligence director, is “likely a Russian asset,” according to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Florida). In an interview with MSNBC on Friday, Schulz accused Trump of making “irresponsible” choices for his new cabinet.

Gabbard is a former congresswoman from Hawaii and a lieutenant colonel in the US Army Reserve. An outspoken critic of Washington’s military interventions, she left the Democratic party shortly after the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022. Last month she announced that she had joined the Republican Party and was backing Trump. The president-elect announced her nomination earlier this week, saying that Gabbard “will bring the fearless spirit that has defined her illustrious career” to the US intelligence community, which includes the NSA, CIA, and FBI.

Schultz claimed that appointing Gabbard to the post would be “dangerous,” as it would make her “a direct line” from the US intelligence community “to our enemies.”

“Tulsi Gabbard is someone who has met with war criminals, violated State Department guidance and secretly, clandestinely, went to Syria and met with [President Bashar] Assad. She’s considered to be, by most assessments, a Russian asset,” the congresswoman claimed, saying that she personally considers Gabbard “someone who is likely a Russian asset.” Schultz did not elaborate on her allegations.

Gabbard has not yet commented on Schultz’s accusations. She previously welcomed Trump’s nomination in a post on X, thanking the president-elect for the opportunity to “defend the safety, security and freedom of the American people.”

Twitter users were quick to lambast Schultz’s for her remarks, pointing out that she presented no evidence of Gabbard’s alleged spying on Russia’s behalf and calling her claims “defamatory.” One user noted that “whenever the left doesn’t like somebody – they’re a Russian asset.” Gabbard was not the first of Trump’s picks to be accused of having ties to Russia – earlier on Friday, two top Democratic senators demanded a probe into SpaceX CEO Elon Musk over media claims that he had contacts with senior Russian officials. Trump earlier announced that Musk would head the future Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), tasked with reforming the US government.

In her interview, Schultz called Trump’s entire cabinet reshuffle “the most extreme and dangerous” in history and a “Star Wars bar level craziness.” She noted that while a few of Trump’s picks are passable, most are “individually unqualified.”

Apart from Gabbard, the congresswoman was especially unhappy with the nomination of former Florida congressman Matt Gaetz for attorney general. She claimed it was “breathtaking in its extremism” as Gaetz has “no experience whatsoever with the Justice Department other than being a subject of investigation for sex trafficking minors.”

  3. She’s entitled to her opinion, I wonder whether she would repeat it under oath in a Court of Law or a Congressional hearing?

She should also be aware that, as a Jew, she does not represent 95%+ of the US population where religious beliefs are concerned. Her voice therefore should be seen as not mainstream and, in particular, the fact that 70%+ of the USA population are opposed to the USA supporting Israel financially and militarily means that she does not have the right to fulminate about the apartheid state that needs to be thrown out of the United Nations without being told in public that she represents an extreme minority opinion.

I don’t trust Gabbard (surprise). She never speaks out about Israel’s crimes and utter barbarity. She and her family have always been aligned with the Hindutvadi cult out of India which has direct ties to India’s RAW intel, which works directly with Mossad et al.

While the position of DNI is very powerful ‘on paper’ it is not all-powerful. ‘They’ created all this after 9/11 (planned before) to further muddy the waters. And ‘they’ left plenty of room for malfeasance and plausible deniability:

I seriously doubt the ‘deep state’ – the ‘CIA within the CIA’ – will be tamed by Tulsi Gabbard.

I’m surprised more service members aren’t utterly appalled and downright offended by her using her ‘service’ (desk job) for her own political gain. Tulsi Gabbard was never anywhere near combat yet she refers to herself as a ‘combat vet.’

You’ll know if Trump is really doing something ‘wrong’ i.e. against the interests of TPTB if he encounters a legitimate attempt on his life. Not the stage show that we were presented with out of Butler, PA.

I do believe that some positive things can be done by RFK Jr.

Aside from that, I don’t agree with any of Trump’s other domestic policies, which are just more tax cuts for the already super wealthy and trickle-down nonsense.

Tariffs don’t work if they aren’t accompanied by a domestic industrial policy of some sort, and Trump certainly isn’t interested in that. They want laissez-faire economic chaos with no upper limits on income and capital gains.

You want to rebuild the country? No income or social security taxes on any income up to $75,000. Maybe even one hundred thousand. Then massively progressive taxation on incomes – particularly those gained via finance capital.

You HAVE to reverse Citizens United and all the other crap that led up to it, going back to Buckley v Valeo, in which the dissenting judge basically said, ‘Look, this is ridiculous: speech is speech and money is money. And formally necessitating the linking of both politically will not bode well for public discourse – let alone republican democracy – going forward.’

    Prescient.

    • Two great contributions by Dan and Julius! I’d like to like Tulsi, but…too much of what I can only term hypocrisy is surfacing (some of which of course is parochially based). I certainly take much issue with her words in the AJC video (paraphrase) “bigotry against Jews in the form of anti-semitism” that will have a modicum of agreement from me ONLY when she similarly denounces “Settler-Colonial Zionist bigotry, culminating in a live-streamed genocide, that is recorded for history an uncountable myriad of times over decades as brazen anti-Palestinianism.”
