Surprise, Surprise, Surprise–Lieberman Suggests No-Fly Zone an Option in Syria if Violence Escalates

crescentandcross | March 27, 2011

Sen. Joe Lieberman suggested Sunday he would support military intervention in Syria if its president resorts to the kind of violent tactics used by Libya’s Muammar al-Qaddafi.

Dozens reportedly have been killed in protests against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government, raising questions about whether the international community would get involved.

Lieberman, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, told “Fox News Sunday” that if Assad starts slaughtering his own people, he will risk other countries imposing a no-fly zone “just as we’re doing in Libya.” He urged Assad to, instead, negotiate with the “freedom fighters” in his country.

“There’s a precedent now that the world community has set in Libya, and it’s the right one,” Lieberman said.

The Obama administration, though, pushed back on suggestions that the United States could support another intervention.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Sunday she doesn’t expect that to happen, describing the clashes in Syria as part of a “police action” — as opposed to a military campaign against the Syrian people.

“Each of these situations is unique,” she said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “Certainly we deplore the violence in Syria.”

  1. Yes she certainly ‘deplores’ violence doesn’t she/they.. God! what is it going to take… as I have mentioned before, the stench in this place is suffocating… I wonder if sir lieberman has done his due diligence in researching the benefits of ‘bombing’ Syria.. it has enough oil for domestic use, unlike the excesses of other Arab countries.. its natural minerals are pretty much confined to those that would be useful in building roads, [natural asphalt, sand, rocks, gypsum, etc].. oh yes they have more than enough phosphatic fertilizer.. maybe that is what lieberman needs more of.. has he calculated the cost.. oh not in human terms, he isn’t human, but in dollars.. billions I’ve read spent just in Lybia….. more crap… more fertilizer…. isn’t even wotth reading.. they will do it until God stops them. I think I’ll go watch netflix.

  2. What about a “NO FLY ZONE” for Palestine and the never ending Israeli attacks on the protesters there? Of course you know that won’t happen with all these dual-Israeli citizens in our govt. and media.

  3. But MY question is why don’t the Arab countries team together.. and pounce on these filthy rats of hell?? amerika and irahell aren’t THAT tough, mostly bragadishio at this point, the dollar is falling and there will be no financing behind them, and there is plenty of money, after all Iran is financing the Freedom Fighters of Egypt.. I can’t figure out why the Gazans are still being held hostage, at the mercy of these scuz butts.. Surely there are enough brains to initiate some sort of combined uprisings to sink the ships in the Mediterranean.. after all, amerika is spread thinner than rationed butter on toast throughout the world on their ‘quest’ for world power.. it seems like no one is going for the juglar, when it could and SHOULD be had! It looks like Iran is just waiting like a hungry cat, waiting for israhell to make the first wrong move.. sure would like to figger this out.
