Likud MK Danon: Destroy Gaza neighborhoods for every rocket fired

By Alex Kane | Mondoweiss | November 10, 2011

Ami Kaufman of +972 Magazine highlights this disgusting message from Danny Danon, a Likud Party member of the Israeli Knesset:

I am currently in Ashkelon to witness the security problem facing the city specifically in neighborhoods with new Olim and have come to two main conclusions. Firstly, we must do everything we can to ensure the safety of all residents with an emphasis on areas with new immigrants who greatly lack protection, and more importantly, to deal with Hamas leaders in Gaza, and for every missile that falls in our southern towns, we retaliate by deleting a neighborhood in Gaza

It is disturbing to hear such a blunt call for collective punishment and the wholesale destruction of civilian life in Gaza from a politician with power in Israel. Unfortunately, it is no surprise–a similar mentality was behind Israel’s conduct during Operation Cast Lead.

Danon’s call echoes what former combatants in the Israeli army told the UK-based Channel 4 early this year:

24-year-old tank commander Ohad remembers being told the night before the operation that the entry into Gaza was to be “disproportionate”. Once into Gaza, he says his orders were unambiguous:

“The order was very clear that if a car came within 200 metres of me I could simply shoot at it. Shoot a shell at it.”

Some of the most disputed claims about the operation centre around firing at family homes and mosques.

Ohad also says: “We needed to cleanse the neighbourhoods, the buildings, the area. It sounds really terrible to say “cleanse”, but those were the orders….I don’t want to make a mistake with the words.”

Danon is only vocalizing what has long been the Israeli establishment’s mentality towards the people of Gaza.

  2. Well, if has not just been seen done as described above, we also saw it happen when a high-ranked military was killed by resistance members,a and whole villages were round up, and executed………

Before I forget, this happened during and while the occupation of half of Europe was going on, by the nazis of adolf hitler!

Seems to me that this member of Israelian Parliament learned a lot from what the nazis did 60 yeats ago all around Europe, especially in and around countries in eastern Europe, were whole villages were murdered, were whole villages were burned, simply because a German soldier was killed…… by the resistance…..
Lets hope the ancestors of this Knesset Member still remember what has happened to them, and that they will tell their son, grand-son, or grand-grand-son…….

Lets also hope that the People of Israel with brains will stand up against their so-called democratic government and representatives, and call them back to sense, use of brains and some humanity!

  3. I have little hope for Israelis finding a soul, a moral conscience, sense of shame or guilt; only a blood-lust and rabid covetousness for more and more of Palestinian’s land. The Bible is not authentic, Yahweh is a myth – not a real estate agent of olde who gave ‘”Israel” to anyone. The Dark Ages are over, this is merely a rationalization for racist imperialism by dupes of psychotics playing a religious card with theist and the holocaust where they can!

I looked for the original report in Haaretz of the poll they conducted and it has been redacted, not only from Google searches, but I can not find it in my Google mailbox search either. Zionist is its own Alpha and Omega!

‘……. Despite pictures from Gaza depicting massive destruction and a large number of wounded and killed, including women and children, 82 percent of the public believe that Israel has not “gone too far” with the military force it is exercising against Hamas.

This means that almost all Israel’s Jewish citizens warmly support the operation, its goals, firepower and management……’

‘……. One should remind Goldstone that the decision to use artillery and carpet bombardment in Gaza wasn’t taken by ‘some’ military commanders on the ground: these decisions were taken by a democratically elected Israeli cabinet. Furthermore, these decisions were supported at the time by 94% of the Israeli Jewish population.

The decision to rain barrages of white phosphorous over the most populated place on this planet was a strategic decision, and it was taken by Israeli military high command. …..’

‘……The IDF military campaign in Gaza enjoyed the support of 94% of the Israeli population. 94% of the Israelis apparently approved of the air raids against civilians. The Israeli people saw the carnage on their TV screens, they heard the voices, they saw hospitals and refugee camps in flames and yet, they weren’t really moved by it all. They didn’t do much to stop their “democratically elected” ruthless leaders. Instead, some of them grabbed a seat and settled on the hills overlooking the Gaza Strip to watch their army turning Gaza into modern Hebraic coliseum of blood……’

‘……. That 94% of the Israeli Jewish public supported the bloodshed, some even watching the bombing from the border as it it was a light show, only reveals to the world the degree to which Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land and the decades of humiliation of its people has degraded Israel’s moral standing in the eyes of the world……’
