UN once again urges Israel to withdraw from entirety of Syria’s Golan Heights

Press TV – December 1, 2018

The majority of the United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution urging the Israeli regime to withdraw from the entirety of the Syrian Golan Heights it occupied some half a century ago.

The resolution, titled The Syrian Golan, was adopted by a record vote of 99 in favor, 10 against and 66 abstentions on a Friday session, declaring that the Israeli controversial move to extend its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the occupied mountainous plateau is null and void and calling on the Tel Aviv regime to pull out from the strategically-important territory.

In 1967, the Israeli regime waged a full-scale war against Arab territories, including those of Syria, and occupied a large swathe of Syria’s Golan Heights.

In 1973, another war, known as the Arab-Israeli War or the Yom Kippur War, broke out between the Israeli regime and a coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria. A year later, a UN-brokered ceasefire came into force, according to which the Israeli regime and the Syrian government agreed to separate their troops, and create a buffer zone patrolled by the UN Disengagement and Observer Force (UNDOF).

In late 1981, Israel passed the Golan Heights Law that extended the regime’s “laws, jurisdiction and administration” to the Golan Heights, effectively annexing the territory to Israel.

A few days after the law’s passage in Israel’s Knesset, UN Security Council Resolution 497 determined the law as “null and void and without international legal effect.”

The assembly on Friday also denounced Israel’s non-compliance with the UNSC 1981 resolution.

The so-called Israeli law is not recognized by the international community.

“Israel continues to occupy a precious part of our land, and our people there continue to suffer because of this occupation,” said Syria’s permanent delegation at the world body, Munzer Munzer, adding, “We are the legitimate owners.”

He also stressed that Syria would not forfeit its right to its land and that its share of Golan Heights are non-negotiable.

The fact that most UN member states continue to support these resolutions shows that they are committed to the goals and purposes of the UN Charter, and that they reject foreign occupation and support Syria’s right to reclaim the entirety of its Israeli-occupied lands, Munzer added.

Back in July, the Israeli military said that it had deployed artillery and armored reinforcements to the occupied mountainous plateau, claiming that the move was the result of a situation assessment “in light of developments on the Syrian Golan Heights.”

  1. “Urging” is not gonna get it with this people spawned in violence and an arrogant “chosenness” turned to a dangerous and debilitating psychosis. They’ll have, finally, to be compelled to comport themselves as normal members of the human race…or come face to face with a consequence(s) that befit their exponentially myriad crimes. Those crimes must be held to account in the very name of humanity. They are easily enumerated, considered, and adjudged by a properly constituted tribunal assembled to address them: crimes against the land and the peoples of the region (most viscerally Syria and Lebanon) and especially against the humanity of the Palestinians indigenous to the “holy” land usurped over the course of recent history by the aberrant colonial-settler ideology Zionism in league with various and sundry enablers and fellow travelers. That fate can’t come too soon for me…or for the unbearably tormented Palestinians and their Arab neighbors.

Note: On numerous occasions in various fora over the decades, I’ve pointed out the documented/verifiable fact that the illegal Zionist invasion and commandeering of the Golan Heights was opportunistically accomplished AFTER the setting of cease-fire parameters aimed at ending the June 1967 Zionist-initiated six-day war. Illegality, compounded….

  2. What, give it back to the goyim, after going to all that trouble to expel them? Not bloody likely. Besides, the Golan is an important source of water, which the Zios sluice off for the benefit of Jews only. Without it, we couldn’t sustain that high Western lifestyle, you know, our lovely green lawns, our swimming pools, all that sort of thing. Let the grunting subhuman goyim go without water, they’ll die off all the sooner. We’ll have that goyimrein Jewish state yet.

  3. Not only is the Golan area a source of water, it’s oil. Research Genie Oil and Gas. Look to Dick Cheney is on the board. Look to how it’s to be developed.
All of the so-called “settlers” criminal acts, the genocide by the government, is to expel by every way an means possible, all the while promoting the Zionist juggernaut as an ally of the countries which contribute, either by their government or the citizens thereof. Which makes them complicit in the criminality of that country.

Take notice of what little notice there is for the current proposed legislation from its greatest benefactor–$38 billion and then some for ten years.

What a sucker Israel and its minions have made of America.

The Zionist regime is at war, in every aspect possible, in ways which show what its goal. Its means it justified for its ends. At the service of mammon, in the present doing so by the blood of its neighbors, if it can, the blood of its enablers.

    • Oil is of minor economic importance and can earn only a tiny fraction of what Israel earns exporting weaponry, whereas water is absolutely essential to fulfill the Zionist aim of gathering world Jewry into Palestine.

  4. 99 countries in favour, 10 against, and 66 abstentions. If the UN, and the World was ‘Democratic’, that vote would carry the day and Israel would be expelled from the Golan heights. But, it won’t happen, because The USA has Israel’s back, and, as everyone knows, Israel controls the USA. No question about it. The USA is controlled by a “Shitty little country in the Middle East”, as one French (Un)Diplomat) once described Israel.

Apart from the UN’s humanitarian work, the UN is a standing joke when it comes to adjudicating grievances around the World.
