Anti-Semitism payouts are an ‘abuse of members money,’ trade union warns Labour Party

RT | August 1, 2020

Britain’s Labour party is dishing out “substantial damages” to staffers who accused the party of anti-Semitism. However, new Labour leader Keir Starmer is facing backlash for this tactic of handling the issue.

Labour’s opponents have long accused the party of anti-Semitism, and a BBC documentary last year promised to shed light on these accusations. In it, seven former party members and a host of Israel advocates claimed that the party had stymied investigations into anti-Jewish sentiment within its ranks. The party condemned the documentary as “biased,” and accused the former members of having “personal and political axes to grind.”

These former members then sued the party, which agreed last week to pay “substantial damages” in the hundreds of thousands of pounds to settle the matter.

Starmer has made stamping out anti-Semitism a top priority, but the party’s most influential backers don’t agree with handing over cash payouts.

“It’s an abuse of members’ money,” ‘Unite’ leader Len McCluskey told the Observer on Saturday. “A lot of it is Unite’s money and I’m already being asked all kinds of questions by my executive. It’s as though a huge sign has been put up outside the Labour party with ‘queue here with your writ and get your payment over there.’”

With 1.2 million members, Unite is Britain’s second-largest trade union. It is also the Labour Party’s largest donor, and has coughed more than £7 million for the party since the start of last year. A withdrawal of its funding would leave the party at risk of insolvency, especially considering the more than 30 anti-Semitism lawsuits it may still have to settle.

McCluskey told the Observer that there is “no doubt” that his union will demand a review of the money it donates to the party. “It would be a mistake if anybody took Unite for granted,” he remarked. “I think that would be a mistake.”

  1. “Starmer has made stamping out anti-Semitism a top priority, but the party’s most influential backers don’t agree with handing over cash payouts”.

Why is legitimate criticism of Israel called Anti Semitism? Everyone on this Planet has to face criticism for their actions, why not Israel?
It’s plain to see that the “Friends of Israel” on both sides of the Houses of Parliament in the UK, have overwhelming influence over the British Government, just like AIPAC has in the USA.
Nobody should be exempt from criticism of their actions, Everyone on Earth is not perfect, and criticism is GOOD for Everyone…….

  2. Maybe “insolvency” is the way to go for this “impotent” charade of a viable political party and representative of a substantial portion of the UK’s society. Do these bast*rds like Starmer really have no better people’s work to do? I haven’t followed Jeremy Corbyn’s fortunes recently: if he hasn’t resigned from Labour, he should–forthwith.

    • The fact that a “low life” like Tony Blair got to lead the British Labour Party into a war with Iraq, based on a complete pack of lies, shows that Britain’s political system has been corrupted, just like the USA’s. Starmer won’t resign, he will be portrayed as Britain’s new “Golden Boy”…….and at the next General Election, it will be a competition between two “Israel Firsters”…….

  3. They’re stealing reparations they owe by outlawing the truth for profit!

    • Thanks: good comment, great article…except for this that caught in my craw: (Rogen) “…I would constantly be shocked at how much motherfuckers hate Jews.” Has Mr. Rogen bothered, by this time in his life, to ask WHY m-fers and many others hate Jews so much? The answer for him might come somewhere in “it’s the Benjamins, baby” or “it’s the DNA and the very nature and actions of the tribe-cum-the ‘chosen,’ Seth.”

      • The better question is: what kind of psychopaths require reverence after they’ve stolen your land, resources, culture, identity & inheritance while gaslighting you for more profit?

“The overwhelming complacency of the antebellum Jewish community, even in the North, provides a record sufficiently embarrassing to warrant official acknowledgement — even, perhaps, reparation…Jews in the New World participated in slavery at least as fully and profitably as their Gentile neighbors. Jews in New Amsterdam owned slaves within a decade of their 1654 arrival, and their brethren in Newport, Rhode Island, were involved in the slave trade right up until the War of Independence…One hundred fifty years after the end of American slavery, many American Jews, comfortably ensconced in mainstream white society, are again mindful, above all, of promoting their own interests.” – Richard Kreitner

        • I sure don’t like the entirety of that (2015 Jewish) Forward commentary by Kreitner, a Jew of course. I read it word for word finding one typo early on that irritated me and, worse, finding it obtuse, wandering here and there, short as can be on context and on-pointedness, using (Yiddish?) words that are meaningless to me, dropping names with abandon…am I supposed to follow such tripe with clarity and concurrence? The quotation you cite is, on its face, decent but so buried in the remaining many words of Jewish “exceptionalism” and self-centeredness/-righteousness as to be odious to this (admittedly) not very astute observer of history and the “progress of civilization.” I prefer a direct approach such as “All Zionists: get the f*ck out of the ‘holy’ land; get your knees off the necks of the Palestinians…and note that you’ll not get one more goddam cent or pence or tribute until you do so. Also note that justice for war crimes and crimes against humanity will be pursued with the greatest vigor.”
