Social media giants ‘purge’ Palestinian journalists reporting on Israeli war crimes

Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip and occupied East Jerusalem say social media giants like WhatsApp, Facebook, and TikTok have closed the accounts of those reporting on Israeli war crimes.
“WhatsApp is now the latest app owned by Meta to conduct a purge of accounts owned by Palestinian journalists, activists, public figures, official spokespersons, and other Palestinian voices,” journalist Jalal Abukhater tweeted on 5 September.
Speaking to Lebanese organization SKeyes, freelance journalist Omar Abu Nada said that the social media platforms “accused me of breaching their publishing standards [for posting pictures] detailing the civilians killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip.”
In the wake of Israel’s most recent aerial blitz of Gaza, dozens of accounts belonging to Palestinian activists, journalists, and media institutions were restricted and deleted.
The accounts targeted last month had published pictures of Israel’s victims and praised the resistance operations and targeting of Israeli cities.
Earlier in August, social media giant Meta launched a censoring campaign on posts referencing the killing of Ibrahim al-Nabulsi, a senior commander of Fatah’s Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade.
Meta also censored videos of Al-Nabulsi’s mother speaking to crowds and carrying her son’s body during his funeral.
Meta owns Facebook, as well as Instagram and WhatsApp.
According to Sada Social Centre (SSC) – a “non-profit Palestinian youth initiative” that monitors the suspension of Palestinian content – within 24 hours of Al-Nabulsi’s death, at least 75 activist and journalist accounts were restricted or deleted on various social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter.
In December of 2020, SSC revealed that as many as 80 percent of Palestinian social media posts had been suppressed by social media companies.
A follow-up investigation revealed that the platforms had been only publishing content in Arabic that highlighted the normalization agreements between a handful of Arab states and Israel.
Last week, employees from tech giant Google accused the company of censoring them for protesting against a controversial $1.2 billion contract that provides Tel Aviv with advanced artificial intelligence (AI), which many fear will worsen human rights abuses in occupied Palestine.

American media distortion on Palestine

… We have conducted a number of statistical studies on this issue and found that US media were covering Israeli deaths in far greater detail than they were covering those of Palestinians.
For example, the New York Times was reporting on Israeli children’s deaths at a rate seven times greater than they were covering Palestinian children’s deaths; this didn’t even include the far larger number of words and amount of personal information given about Israeli victims compared to Palestinians. We also found that primetime network news programmes were covering Israeli children’s deaths at rates up to 14 times greater than the coverage given to Palestinians.
I discovered a system of reporting from the region in which a violent conflict between an officially “Jewish state” and the Muslims and Christians it had dispossessed (and was in the process of dispossessing further) was being covered most of the time by journalists with legal, familial or emotional ties to Israel. A great many are Israeli citizens (though this is almost never disclosed) or married to Israelis, their children also being Israeli.
I discovered that the Associated Press control bureau for the region, from which virtually all news reports that appear in US newspapers were transmitted, was located in Israel and was staffed almost entirely by Israeli and Jewish journalists (many of whom had served in the Israeli military).
I learned that the son of the New York Times bureau chief was serving in the Israeli military while his father was reporting on the conflict. In fact, I discovered that it was common for journalists in the region reporting for American media to have close personal ties to the Israeli military; that at least one staff member had been serving in the Israeli military even as he was reporting for the NY Times ; that US News & World Report’s senior foreign correspondent, who had covered and written about the Middle East for more than 40 years, had a son serving in the Israeli army during the time he was reporting there; that Middle East “pundit” Jeffrey Goldberg, whose commentary pervades both the print and broadcast media, is an Israeli citizen who served in the Israeli military.
I learned that CNN anchorman Wolf Blitzer lived in Israel for many years, at one point travelled around the US as the “voice of Israel” and had worked for an Israel lobby publication.
I learned that Time magazine’s bureau chief was an Israeli citizen, and that NPR’s long-time correspondent from the region had an Israeli husband who had served in the military and may be an Israeli citizen herself.
I also discovered that this pattern of Israel-centrism went beyond the regional reporting. In fact, the regional filtering of the news may not even be the most significant factor in the broken media reporting on this issue that Americans receive.
Within US-based journalism per se I discovered patterns of Israel-centrism that were deeply troubling. In some cases I personally experienced the intentional suppression of information on Palestine. Following are a few examples. … Read full article

To encourage, which is so necessary considering the ways in which jewish control, censorship and deceit is exercised, is the purpose of this response to the first comment, and by that, the likes of this web site must be honored and celebrated. So, this is joined to the first comment, whose author I am so often encouraged to read his commentary.
To make a comparison, Israel attempted to murder all the American sailors of the USSLiberty, as well as destroy the American navy ship, blame it on Egypt and thus involve America more to its side in that one of many wars, caused by the illegitimate invasion and conquest of the land of Palestine.
The Zionist agenda and its partisans are losing much of their many-facited war to maintain and expand its “Greater Israel”. Of course Israel has taken by military conquest land from Syria. It wants to take the off-shore oil and gas from Lebanon.
It wants to obfuscate its murderous campaign. sought to do so by denying the murder of the American journalist working for alJazeera, Shireen Abu Aklah. It did not succeed, did it? On and on.
But in the long run, the Zionist agenda, its partisans have already lost credibility.
This is shown by the ever-mounting campaign to make criticism of Israel as criminal. This may very well defame and ruin countries which have been, what I will improve in name other than ZOG, as a temporarily conquered government, jewish/Zionist cowardly committed.
As to support for that last statement, the Shabbos Goy know they are conquered, controlled by a racist, murderous and wishing-to-destroy-them entity: a new world order, centered in Jerusalem and bent on either enslaving them completely or wanting them… dead.
Their leaders have said this is the goal. That is the practice now in progress. It’s visible except for those blinded by their cowardice or mindless complicity.
